I looked through my lattice, 7 And saw among the simple, I perceived among the [a]youths,
A young man devoid of understanding, 8
Passing along the street near her corner;
And he took the path to her house 9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night.

A path is a direction leading to a destination. When you step onto a path, your intentions don’t matter because you are going to go where ever that path leads.

Making lesser things the main thing:
There is a saying, “Keep the main thing, the main thing.”
