Head coach Rich Renner breaks down the Mustangs as they pursue a Lone Star Conference championship.

Special teams’ miscues put Midwestern State behind No. 7-ranked Western Colorado 14-0 in the opening seven minutes on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium, and a 21-point first quarter deficit was more than the Mustangs could overcome in a 38-13 loss to the Mountaineers in the home opener.

Jakolby Longino completed 27-of-49 passes for 302 yards with two touchdowns, including a 24-yard strike to Case Peacock. Longino completed passes to nine different receivers with Demonte Greene catching 11 passes for 98 yards.

Noah Bustard made eight tackles and recorded a sack, while Amani Pressley intercepted a pass for the Mustangs.

The Greyhounds will be at Memorial Stadium for Family Weekend on Sept. 20, and kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
