Midwestern State used a dogged defensive effort to eliminate top-seeded Stanislaus State in the third round of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship with a 2-0 victory. Gabriel Gacovicaj scored late in the first half, and Dereck Espinal, who assisted on the first goal, clinched the victory with a goal in the 90th minute. Midwestern State recorded its 13th clean sheet of the season.
The Mustangs defense will be tested again by Point Loma in the Super Region IV Final. The Sea Lions are hosting the Mustangs in San Diego on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. CT. Point Loma has three players that have scored at least 12 goals, and the Sea Lions have outscored the opposition this season, 63-24.
