Ep. 8: Anime For All with Maurice Thomas
Black fans worldwide are speaking out in fandom spaces, but are their voices being heard? And how can artforms, such as anime and manga, which are rooted in eastern cultures, better incorporate western cultures and perspectives? This week, I had an enlightening discussion with Maurice Thomas, co-host of the podcast Blerds Guide to the Galaxy, which you can find anywhere you get your podcasts. I hope you enjoy our conversation about inclusivity, representation, and making fandom a welcoming space for all fans.

For decades, many comic book fans have connected with the story of Bruce Wayne, as well as the Batfam of engaging characters who orbit around him. But what draws us into the legend of Batman, an orphan who grows up to become a wealthy and complex crimefighter? And what does the future hold for this iconic protagonist? This week, I had a great conversation with writer, podcaster and comic collector, Morgan Brooks. You can listen to Morgan and the Ren Boys talk about all things nerd culture on their podcast called Ren Pod, anywhere you get your podcasts. • Feed Your Focus with Julian Leggett
Ep. 6: Feed Your Focus with Julian Leggett
Photographer Gordon Parks said, “A guy who takes a chance, who walks the line between the known and unknown, who is unafraid of failure, will succeed.” Being a stan is all about following your passion, whatever that passion might be, and sharing that love with the world. This week, I spoke with Julian Leggett, a rising star in the world of visual arts who is chasing his dreams one shot at a time. I hope you enjoy our discussion about artistry, vision and hustle.

  • Love Letter to Fanfiction with Denise Briggs
Episode 5: Love Letter to Fanfiction with Denise Briggs
When scholars, publicists and critics debate the legitimacy of Fanfiction as a form of Literature, I can’t help but wonder how many great stories are being abandoned or locked away in writers’ hearts simply because of doubt. Who decides which stories have inherent value, and which don’t? The writer? The reader? Or some rich dudes in suits?
This week, I had so much fun talking about Fanfiction with my guest, Denise Briggs, a talented and seasoned fanfic writer. I hope you enjoy our conversation about fanfiction as a form of literature, love and self care.

  • Tales As Old As Time with Christian Dashiell
Episode 4: Tales As Old As Time with Christian Dashiell
On May 25, 1977, the first star wars film premiered in theaters and started a fandom that has continued across generations, regions, cultures and languages, much like its interplanetary storylines. However, the diversity of this beloved franchise isn't always celebrated within its own fandom. Can stories of fighting for justice in galaxies far away make a positive impact here on Earth?
This week, I spoke with Christian Dashiell, a long-time Star Wars fan as well as a writer, podcaster, and agent for change. In addition talking about his journey with this film series, we did discuss Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker, so spoiler alert if you haven't watched it yet.

  • K-Pop Goes West with Sarah Raughley

Episode 3: K-Pop Goes West with Sarah Raughley

Fandom can create a sense of community and some much-needed escapism during hard times. But what do we do when fandom isn't a safe space for everyone?

This week, we're talking about the highs and lows of being a Black K-pop stan. My guest for this topic is Sarah Raughley, a K-pop multi and a fantastic author, whose storytelling is sprinkling Black Girl Magic across literature. To learn more about Sarah, visit sarahraughley.com and check out her book series The Effigies as well as her upcoming book, The Bones of Ruins, which is available for preorder and comes out on Sept 7, 2021.

I hope you enjoy this open conversation about a topic that is close to both of our hearts.

Episode 2: Love In The Time of Cancel Culture with Lamarz Price

Stanning can feel a lot like falling in love. And just like love, it can sometimes lead to heartbreak. As fans, when do we choose to stand by our faves and when do we need to walk away?

I spoke with podcaster, youtuber, and hip-hop head, Lamarz “Katt” Price, about what it’s like when the celebrities we love let us down. You can find Katt every Friday on his podcast The Dipped In Butter Program, and on YouTube on his cereal expert channel called Katt'n Crunch.
