1And I, when I came to you, brothers,[a]did not come proclaiming to youthe testimony[b]of God with lofty speech or wisdom.2For I decided to know nothing among you exceptJesus Christ and him crucified.3AndI was with youin weakness and in fear and much trembling,4and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration ofthe Spirit and of power,5so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men[c]butin the power of God.

6Yet amongthe mature we do impart wisdom, although it is nota wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age,who are doomed to pass away.7But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God,which God decreed before the ages for our glory.8None ofthe rulers of this age understood this, forif they had, they would not have crucifiedthe Lord of glory.9But, as it is written,

What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,nor the heart of man imagined,what God haspreparedfor those who love him

10these thingsGod has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, eventhe depths of God.11For who knows a person's thoughtsexcept the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.12Nowwe have received notthe spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.13And we impart thisin words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit,interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.[d]

14The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they arefolly to him, andhe is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.15Thespiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.16For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him? 18For the word of the cross isfolly tothose who are perishing, but to uswho are being saved it isthe power of God.19For it is written,

I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.

20Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age?Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?21For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach[a]to save those who believe.22ForJews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,23but we preach Christcrucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christthe power of God andthe wisdom of God.25For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

24This is the disciplewho is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, andwe knowthat his testimony is true.

1Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw thatthe stone had been taken away from the tomb.2So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple,the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, andwe do not know where they have laid him.3So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb.4Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.5And stooping to look in, he sawthe linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.6Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

11But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb.12Andshe sawtwo angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet.13They said to her,Woman, why are you weeping? She said to them,They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.14Having said this, she turned around andsaw Jesus standing,but she did not know that it was Jesus.15Jesus said to her,Woman, why are you weeping?Whom are you seeking?Supposing him to bethe gardener, she said to him, Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.16Jesus said to her,Mary.She turned and said to him in Aramaic,[b]Rabboni! Jesus and Thomas

24NowThomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin,[d]was not with them when Jesus came.25So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them,Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.

26Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them.Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,Peace be with you.27Then he said to Thomas,Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. 16So hedelivered him over to them to be crucified.

The Crucifixion

So they took Jesus,17andhe went out,bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha.18There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.19Pilatealso wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.20Many of the Jews read this inscription, forthe place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek.21So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Do not write, The King of the Jews, but rather, This man said, I am King of the Jews.22Pilate answered,What I have written I have written.

23When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic.[a]But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom,24so they said to one another, Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.This was to fulfill the Scripture which says,

They divided my garments among them,and for my clothing they cast lots.

So the soldiers did these things,25but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.26When Jesus saw his mother andthe disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother,Woman, behold, your son!27Then he said to the disciple,Behold, your mother!And from that hour the disciple took her tohis own home.

The Death of Jesus

28After this, Jesus, knowing that all was nowfinished, said (to fulfill the Scripture),I thirst.29A jar full of sour wine stood there,so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth.30When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said,It is finished,and he bowed his head andgave up his spirit.

Jesus' Side Is Pierced

31Since it wasthe day of Preparation, andso that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath wasa high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.32So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the otherwho had been crucified with him.33But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.34But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came outblood and water.35He who saw it has borne witnesshis testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truththat you also may believe.36For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled:Not one of his boneswill be broken.37And again another Scripture says,They will look on him whom they have pierced.

Jesus Is Buried

38After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretlyfor fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body.39Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus[b]by night, camebringing a mixture ofmyrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds[c]in weight.40So they took the body of Jesus andbound it inlinen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.41Now in the place where he was crucified there was agarden, andin the garden a new tombin which no one had yet been laid.42So because of the Jewishday of Preparation,since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.Watch at: https://vimeo.com/814017511
