Titus 1:10-16 emphasizes why the church needs elders who can preach and teach. There is an age-old struggle with false-teachers and teachings that are contrary to Scripture. Some of these teachings can make the difference between heaven and hell. We need leaders who will preach the trustworthy word and instruct people in sound doctrine.
Titus 1:5-9 brings us the qualifications for an elder/pastor. We see from this list that God is first concerned with who a pastor is then what a pastor does. The church today needs qualified men who can lead God's church the way God designed for it to be led.
Titus 1:1-4 brings us a wonderful introduction from the Apostle Paul. Paul clearly knows his purpose in life is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and strengthen the faith of God's elect. He also recognizes that his purpose is inseparable from God's promise. The same is true for you!
2 Timothy 4:9-22 bring us Paul's final words of instruction, greeting, and requests. When you put all this information, people, and places together we see an amazing network of first century Christians in action, and Paul is still pouring out his life for the sake of the Gospel from a jail cell.
2 Timothy 4:1-8 brings us Paul's final charge to Timothy which centers around the command to "Preach the Word." The Word is still the answer in a world that hates the truth. Paul sets Timothy the example of faithfulness and looks forward to receiving the crown of righteousness from his Lord and Savior when he crosses the finish line.
2 Timothy 3:10-17 brings us a wonderful challenge to hold fast to God's Word. It is the anchor for our soul in the midst of the cultural current. It is the tool for shaping us and equipping us to be used by God. Commit yourself to it!
2 Timothy 3:1-9 finds Paul bringing a warning to Timothy of what he can expect in the last days. The times of difficulty will be a result of the godlessness of people. Surprisingly, Paul is speaking of people within the church! May we be vigilant against allowing these sins of affections, attitudes, and appetites gaining a foothold in our fellowship.
Dr. Chuck Kelley joined us on the 75th anniversary of Stapleton Baptist and preached from the book of Philippians.
Love for God and love for people come together in making disciples. The mission of the church until the Lord returns is to make disciples of all nations by going, baptizing, and teaching. We do that knowing Christ has all authority and he will never leave us!
Our primary purpose to love God then propels us on to loving others. In Matthew 22:39 Jesus teaches us that everyone is our neighbor and we should show the same consideration and love to others as we do to ourselves. Our love for one another will be the ultimate evidence that we are followers of Jesus!
