Como todos los años, hemos decidido dedicar el mes de febrero a conocer historias de mujeres en el área de las ciencias y sus aportes desde distintas aristas. En este último episodio nuestra invitada es Judith Pardo. Judith es Bióloga y Paleontológa, nacida en Porvenir Tierra del Fuego. Doctora en Ciencias de la Universidad de Heidelberg. Profesora Asociada del Centro de Investigación GAIA-Antártica de la Universidad de Magallanes. Encargada del área del macropaleontología en el Instituto de la Patagonia. Desde los 21 años investiga a los ictiosaurios, antiguos reptiles marinos que vivieron en los mares del planeta. En su postdoctorado se enfocó en el estudio de las enfermades que sufrieron los reptiles marinos en el pasado, estudiando ictiosaurios del hemisferio norte y Colombia principalmente. Su investigación en las paleopatologías ha sido reconocida internacionalmente ya que desarrolla por primera vez una metodología para el estudio sistemático de enfermedades y traumas óseos en ictiosaurios.En Chile el año 2022 junto a su equipo consiguieron excavar al primer ictiosaurio completo de Chile y a la única hembra preñada con una edad de entre 139 y 129 millones registrada en el planeta. La localidad fosilífera donde realiza su investigación en Chile, se encuentra en el borde de un glaciar en la Región de Magallanes, el cual ha ido perdiendo masa de hielo producto del cambio climático actual. Esta localidad conserva casi un centenar de ictiosaurios, la mayoría completos y articulados y ha permitido asignar a la localidad fosilífera del sur de magallanes como la más importante del planeta para el Cretácico temprano, tanto por la cantidad de ictiosaurios encontrados, como por su calidad de preservación.
Como todos los años, hemos decidido dedicar el mes de febrero a conocer historias de mujeres en el área de las ciencias y sus aportes desde distintas aristas. Nuestra invitada del día de hoy es Cristina Dorador, ella es Biología de la Universidad de Chile e hizo su doctorado en el Instituto Max Planck de Limnología y la Universidad de Kiel en Alemania. Actualmente es académica e investigadora de la Universidad de Antofagasta y del centro de biotecnología de bioingeniería de la universidad de chile. Cristina se ha dedicado durante su carrera a estudiar la ecología, diversidad y función de los microorganismos en ambientes considerados extremos. Ha desarrollado su carrera en el norte de Chile estudiando salares y ambientes del desierto. Su trabajo también incluye la búsqueda de compuestos bioactivos desde bacterias y hongos. Cristina también se ha dedicado activamente a la difusión de las ciencias al público general y el año 2021 fue elegida como una de los 154 convencionales constituyentes. Parte de su motivación al participar en este proceso era promover una constitución ecológica, descentralizada, que preservara los salares frente al extractivismo y la protección del medio ambiente y los derechos sociales. También ha sido destacada en numerosas ocasiones, por ejemplo, fue elegida como unas las 100 mujeres líderes del país el año 2017, el 2021 una nueva especie descubierta en el salar de atacama fue llamada percolomonas doradorae en honor a su investigación y trabajo pionero en la biología microbiana y su comprometida ayuda en el proyecto, y el año pasado fue elegida entre las 30 mujeres poderosas de chile por la revista Forbes.

Daniela es Licenciada en Física mención Astronomía de la UV y Candidata a Doctora en Física de la UChile. Trabaja en Cosmología, incorporando herramientas de machine learning al estudio de las estructuras del Universo. Participa en la colaboración LSST-DESC del Observatorio Vera Rubin y recientemente obtuvo el premio For Women in Science otorgado por L'Oreal-UNESCO.

Hoy está con nosotras Jennifer Anguita Agüero, también conocida como Wamba. Ella es Licenciada en Astronomía de la Universidad de Concepción y estudiante de Magister en Astronomía de la Universidad de Chile. Divulgadora Científica y Creadora de @astronomiarapidita (Instagram, Facebook y Tiktok) y parte del equipo de extensión del Centro de Astrofísica y Tecnologías Afines (CATA). Docente de curso para niños y niñas del departamento de Astronomía de la Universidad de Chile (@astronomiauchile), además de charlista y tallerista. Monitora y Asesora científica en el proyecto “Cazadoras de Estrellas” (@cazadorasdeestrellas) de la Universidad de Chile e integrante de Fundación Pequeñas Grandes Estrellas @fundacionpge.
Como todos los años, hemos decidido dedicar el mes de febrero a conocer historias de mujeres en el área de las ciencias y sus aportes desde distintas aristas. Hoy nos acompaña Natalia Inostroza. Natalia fue desde pequeña curiosa, se pasaba ojeando icaritos que llegaban semanalmente a casa, creció escuchando historias de libros y películas de ciencia ficción y comics que mas tarde serían su inspiración. Así descubrió el gusto por el cosmos. En el patio de su casa desarrolló habilidades químicas haciendo extracciones a las flores más coloridas de su madre, que luego eran un apetecido jugo para sus vecinas. También hormigas fueron víctima de su curiosidad, ayudándola a conocer el ácido fórmico de diversas maneras. El comprender las moléculas y la composición química en el Universo, disciplina conocida como Astroquímica, es su pasión sin dudas. Desde la arista de la fisicoquímica molecular, y utilizando herramientas de la mecánica cuántica, Natalia modela y predice espectros de moléculas que podrían ser detectadas en el Medio Interestelar. Estos conocimientos los aprendió gracias a su advisor postdoctoral Dr. Timohy J Lee, un gran científico que plasmó en ella la ética y la pasión por lo que hoy realiza en su carrera. Hoy la motiva saber cómo estas moléculas se forman y cuáles son esos mecanismos de formación, considerando condiciones extremas de bajas temperaturas y densidades. Responder esas preguntas permitirá inferir acerca de la evolución de una región interestelar y, junto con ello, mirar hacia el pasado de nuestro Universo, considerado la importancia de las moléculas prebióticas como posibles ”portadores de vida” e impulsores de los primeros pasos para el desarrollo de esta en la Tierra. A Natalia le apasiona su disciplina y trata de divulgar ciencia cada vez que puede, para fomentar liderazgo STEAM en niñas y niños de Chile. Trabaja fuerte en contra el sesgo de género en todas sus aristas. Fan de Carl Sagan, la música grunge, Elvis Presley y Frank Sinatra, entre otros varios, le gusta el karaoke con amigos, disfruta esquiar, por ende le gusta mucho el frío y la nieve, no ve TV, excepto series y películas altamente recomendadas (Game of thrones, etc), disfruta del cine arte y sus directores favoritos son Win Wenders y Quentin Tarantino. Uno de sueños pendientes vivir un año en Alaska.

Rocío es oriunda de Coyhaique, con un corazón sureño que se ha movido por muchos lados. Desde pequeña fue adicta a los libros, y cuando conoció los libros ilustrados su cabeza explotó. Estudió Biología ambiental e hizo un Magíster en Ecología en la Universidad de Chile, para luego irse a Nueva Zelandia a hacer un Doctorado, también en Ecología. Entonces, descubrió su pasión: la comunicación científica...y al regresar a Chile tenía decidido que eso haría. Así, cumplió un sueño cuando pudo unir los libros, las ciencias y la comunicación, lo que hace a través de su trabajo en "Cuenta tu Ciencia". Hoy vive con los árboles y los pájaros en la ciudad de Valdivia.

Nuestra invitada de hoy es María Constanza, más conocida como Tati, de Santiago de Chile. Tati estudió gran parte de su enseñanza básica y media en el colegio Antupirén, en Peñalolén. Sus estudios superiores los realizó tamién en Santiago, en la Universidad de Chile, cursando la carrera de Licenciatura en ciencias mención Geofísica, y posteriormente el magíster en ciencias mención Geofísica en el mismo departamento. Para su tesis de magíster, realizó una pasantía en Francia con un importante sismólogo de ese país. Actualmente se dedica a estudiar los terremotos en Chile, y es profesora de la Escuela de Verano. También hace divulgación de sismología (y de geociencias), principalmente en redes sociales como @srta.replica (instagram). Y tiene un podcast en conjunto con @nunoaturadio (instagram) llamado Ondas en Choque, donde cuenta historias y datos freak de distintos fenómenos de la naturaleza.

Nuestra primera invitada es Fancy Guisélle. Ella es Diseñadora Industrial y se especializó en desarrollo, especificaciones técnicas y representación gráfica de productos. Estudió también Arte, Arquitectura y Biotecnología. La ciencia siempre le ha fascinado y por eso su enfoque desde las artes y el diseño industrial es comunicar de manera efectiva no solo sus resultados, sino sus procesos, actores e investigaciones. Fundó Esporascicomm, un estudio de diseño para la comunicación de las ciencias y ha diseñado e ilustrado productos, libros, revistas, cómics, e infografías con temáticas científicas para distintas Universidades, diseñó productos educativos STEM para niños en CoreSkills y Efecto Educativo, y es editora y diseñadora de Revista Cambalache (USACH). Es miembro del International Council of Design, la World Design Organization, Comunica Ciencia Chile y Co-Fundadora de la primera asociación de comunicación científica visual en Chile (ACCVi) Actualmente investiga y experimenta con microorganismos y hongos, para la producción y fabricación de Biomateriales y su aplicación en la manufactura de productos para la comunicación científica.
