It’s November and it’s starting to get cold outside (depending on where you live). Now is the time of year to snuggle up and read a book… or listen to a podcast about books.

In this 15th episode of Star Wars Bookworms we welcome blogger and first time podcast guest Megan. She writes for fansites Fan Girl Blog and Knights’ Archive as well as her own blog Blog Full of Words.

At the top of the show Teresa asks Aaron and Megan about their time at New York Comic Con. Aaron and Megan do their best to make Teresa jealous by mentioning all the cool people they got to meet. You know, they just had dinner with John Jackson Miller. No big deal. The news revealed at the Rebels panel is also discussed.

In response to some listener feedback Aaron and Megan talk about their personal EU fandom and what were the first things they read (Teresa had to briefly drop out but her answer can be heard in the bonus content at the end of the show). Aaron also asked Megan what her hopes are for the future of the Expanded Universe.

Teresa rejoins the show to help review the comic volume Dawn of the Jedi: The Prisoner of Bogan. Are the characters too one-dimentional? Is Shae Koda a stereotypical “strong female”? Is Aaron becoming a shipper? All this and more is discussed.

Next they review the comic volume Star Wars: In the Shadow of Yavin. They talked about the controversies of a possible reboot as well as their opinions of Leia in an X-wing cockpit. Somehow the discussion evolved into a conversation on the overuse of Boba Fett and if Darth Maul is becoming the new Boba Fett.

Was Luke out of character? Are space battles in comics boring? Why is Chewbacca always so awesome? Listen in to hear what our hosts have to say about the first volume of this popular comic series.

Star Wars Reads Day was this past Saturday and I attended the event in Lancaster, PA. The event was a ton of fun and I would recommend it to all Star Wars fans, especially if you have kids. One of the highlights was the attendance of Star Wars author Joe Schreiber. He is the author of the novels Death Troopers and Red Harvest, but the novel I was excited to hear about was his upcoming Maul: Lockdown.

As Schreiber began to do a reading from the book I decided to turn on my phone’s voice recorder to see if I could catch some good audio for the show. I’m glad I did. The reading from Lockdown ended up being a battle between Darth Maul and a Yuuzhan Vong! Schreiber also had some very interesting things to say about the story and development of the book.

Listen in as Teresa and I discuss Star Wars Reads Day and also play the audio of Schreiber’s reading and his Q&A. After the audio we discuss what we thought about what Schreiber had to say.

Oh yeah…

On the podcast I mention that I might post an exclusive excerpt from Maul: Lockdown. Well here you go. This excerpt picks up right from the end of where Joe left off in his reading. If you thought the excerpt he read from was violent, this next paragraph takes it up a notch. Enjoy.

Anyone who listens to Star Wars podcasts is probably familiar with our guest for this episode. We were happy to welcome Jimmy Mac from the podcast RebelForce Radio! Of course since we had him we had to get his take on the Star Wars Expanded Universe. He talked about how he got into the EU while it was still in its infancy, some of the early things he was into, and his dislike for the Black Fleet Crisis. We also discussed what his thoughts are on the Expanded Universe in relation to the new movies coming out.

Next we briefly talked about the upcoming Star Wars Reads Day events (Oct 5th at a bookstore or library near you) and New York Comic Con (Oct 10-13th in NYC). NYCC features a number of Star Wars programming items including Del Rey author signings, an Anthony Daniels Q&A, a Star Wars Rebels panel, and a lot more.

Finally we jumped into our review of Star Wars: Kenobi. Was Kenobi underused in a book with his name on it? Did Star Wars get back to its Western roots? Should Tuskens be able to speak Basic? Why do all the ladies love Obi-Wan? All this and more will be discussed on this latest episode of Star Wars Bookworms.

Bookworms is back with your hosts Teresa and Aaron. On this episode they bring in Mark Hurliman of the Star Wars Beyond the Films podcast to talk some comics.

Before they tackled the reviews though, they had some feedback from a listener to share. Listener shazbazzar sent in an email with his thoughts on Crucible, Mortis, the Expanded Universe, and Episode VII which led to some fun discussion on all topics.

We have an extra special episode of Star Wars Bookworms for you today. This past weekend was Dragon Con 2013 in Atlanta. One of our hosts, Aaron, was on location at this major pop culture convention and he had the chance to be on a few Star Wars panels. One of the panels he was on was the Intro to the Star Wars Expanded Universe panel. He was joined by a number of other panelists including Brian and Nanci from the Tosche Station podcast.

Lucky for us Riley from the Star Wars Report recorded the entire panel. What we have done for our listeners is take the recording and edit it a bit. The majority of the panel is here but we did edit out sections that were hard to hear or parts that were more filler. Review this Episode: Star Wars: Crucible

Star Wars Bookworms is a monthly podcast but we have gone above and beyond this month releasing a second episode with (maybe) a third on the way! In this episode we are joined by Expanded Universe expert Geralyn Bray, a blogger over at the fansite Roqoo Depot. At the top of the show we give her a short interview to learn more about her favorite things in Star Wars.

Force ghosts, Force ghosts everywhere! We also discuss the Episode VII rumors that both Ian McDiarmid and Ewan McGregor may return to the Star Wars movies. As Force ghosts, clones, holocron projections? Will McGregor get a stand alone Kenobi movie?

For our review this episode we discuss the novel Crucible. This novel seemed to split the Star Wars Expanded Universe community. Our hosts were split as well, and you may be surprised by how much good we actually had to say about it. We don’t only discuss the novel but also it’s impact on the Expanded Universe in that era and the future of the EU.

In this July episode our hosts welcome guest Adam Farmer. Unlike other guests they have had in the past, Adam is not a Star Wars blogger or podcast host. He is a fan of the show and a casual Star Wars fan who is somewhat new to the Star Wars Expanded Universe. He brought a nice fresh perspective.

At the top of the show Aaron, Teresa, and Adam talked about the lack of SWEU news coming out of San Diego Comic Con and how they wished they were at Star Wars Celebration Europe. Aaron and Teresa also talked about how they were excited to attend Dragon Con in August. The conversation also drifted into Star Wars Episode VII casting rumors which of course led to a little bit of fan casting.

For the first review our hosts and guest covered the Clone Wars comic story The Smuggler’s Code. Comparisons were made to Lilo and Stitch, Hercules, and Kimpossible. Listen to the episode to see if our hosts thought the comic was too kid-centered or right on target.
