Today we are going to dive into an interesting moment from Return of the Jedi. At the end of The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader confesses to Luke that he is his father. Vader invites Luke to rule the galaxy with him as father and son. Vader has been forced to stay in allegiance with the Emperor, but Vader’s true desire is to overthrow the Emperor. If Vader wanted the Emperor to be destroyed, why did Vader stop Luke from killing the Emperor in episode 6? It stands to reason that Vader would have benefited from Luke taking his best shot to end Palpatine once and for all. So why block him? Today’s debate is inspired by a video game battle between Mace Windu and Anakin Skywalker from the Revenge of the Sith game. In the game, Anakin kills Mace Windu during a full scale lightsaber battle. Our discussion today is going to be part Fantasy Battle and part Fanfiction. This match up got me thinking about these two characters and their unique fighting styles. Would Anakin have actually won? I’m going to walk you through all the scenarios and do a full analysis.
