This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) being signed into law. And yet, one can ponder why over 1 billion people with "disabilities" are often overlooked in the Diversity & Inclusion conversation. Given this momentous occasion, now is the perfect time for this episode of Coach Chat. It features Tiffany Yu, who is the founder of Diversability, an award-winning social enterprise dedicated to raising disability awareness and reshaping our conceptions of ability.
The word "disabilities" is said to be associated with the past and people's negative experiences with institutions. While the term Diversability embraces the uniqueness and potential in every human being, disabled or non-disabled. By celebrating diverse disability experiences through the power of community, Tiffany encourages us to consider: Can a "disability" be the reason for someone to belong rather than to be excluded? In this episode, you’ll hear Coach Colette and Tiffany discuss what it feels like to be seen, to be heard, to have your experiences validated; and what it feels like when that’s not the case.
