Today’s episode of Ore’s Gist is about Starting with abundance with ChatGPT, brought to you by none other than yours truly, Ore Apampa. In today’s episode, I’ll be sharing a little life hack that could save you time and money (and possibly earn you money) in the long run.
Start With Abundance
If I say the phrase “Start With Abundance” what would it mean to you? I got the definition of this from a podcast series by Tiago Forte called The Building A Second Brain Podcast which has now been turned into a book (view the book on Amazon) which I intend to read. Starting with abundance is a way to help you beat procrastination and the fear of getting started on something. Writers may be familiar with the dread that may come with the blank page. Instead of starting with the blank page. You can find templates to help you get started which you can modify to suit your needs and/or which give you a framework for you to begin writing.
In my world of voiceovers, I come across the proverbial “blank page” in different ways and I have also found ways to mitigate for it. For example, on voiceover casting websites you often have to write a message to clients when you send your Voiceover demo.
The first time I was faced with that blank screen, I didn’t know what to write but I did a bit of research and found out what other people had written and adapted theirs to suit my needs - far less intimidating than writing completely from scratch and not being sure if it would be well received by clients. In finding out what other people wrote, I also learned their reasoning - why they did it. Over time though, I did tweak my own version so much that it looked nothing like what they had written.
The principle behind this is the fact that ‘there is nothing new under the sun’. Things that seem new are simply remixes and new combinations of ideas that already exist. It’s not to say that you should not try to be original, rather, your originality may come from combining things in new way, taking inspiration from one domain and applying it to a new domain.
I’m not saying one should not put in the effort to try to do things from scratch. I am saying, not everything needs to be done from scratch if alternatives are viable. For example, if I was to remake my CV without looking at the one that currently exists, I most certainly would not start from a blank page. I would probably find a template. If I did start from the blank page it would probably be that I already had an idea of a template in my head that I was following, whether closely or loosely.
Enter ChatGPT
ChatGPT helps to take this idea of starting with abundance to a whole new, dare-I-say scary, level. Some people have used ChatGPT to write essays and whole books, raising questions on who owns the intellectual property rights.
In case you haven’t heard about ChatGPT, which may not be many people reading this post, ChatGPT is an an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that you can interact with, asking questions using text, and it aims to give you the answers to most of the questions you can think of.
Ways I use ChatGPT
Here are some ways I have used ChatGPT in just the past week:
* Thinking of video ideas for a YouTube channel teaching people about getting into voiceovers [Voiceover Mentor YouTube Channel]
* Thinking of relevant tags and hashtags for those videos.
* Generating alternative title options.
* Generating video description text
* Generating video outlines.
* Drafting email sequences for warming up Voiceover leads.
* Summarising long pieces of text
* Looking up a list of unicorn companies and what industries they existed in
* Creating a learning plan for learning abut UX/UI design
* Thinking of alternative titles for this article
Now when I have to think of solutions to things, I know that I don’t have to start with a blank page and it is very comforting. As uncle Parker from Spider Man once said: With great power comes great responsibility. I have found that there are ways of using ChatGPT to help you achieve a means but sometimes you may have to fact check some results it shares and it would be best practice not to just use the result of some of your queries verbatim. It’s often worth paraphrasing and sometimes just using it as inspiration - essentially letting it help you not start from a blank page.
The key takeaway I want to leave you with from this article is that you don’t have to be intimidated by blank pages. Instead you can use a tool (ChatGPT) you have access to and let it inspire you to create great things.
A short story to drive home the point
Once upon a time, there was a young writer named Tobi who had been struggling with writer's block for weeks. Every time she sat down to write, she found herself staring at a blank page, feeling overwhelmed and intimidated by the task ahead.
One day, Tobi heard about a new AI tool called ChatGPT that could help her generate ideas and overcome her writer's block. Skeptical at first, she decided to give it a try.
Using ChatGPT, Tobi was able to brainstorm new article ideas, generate outlines, and even draft some of her paragraphs. With each interaction, she felt more confident and inspired to write.
Soon, Tobi was producing more content than ever before, and her writing improved as she learned to incorporate new ideas and perspectives from ChatGPT. She no longer feared the blank page and instead saw it as an opportunity to collaborate with the AI tool and create something truly unique.
In the end, Tobi learned that starting with abundance, whether it be through templates, inspiration from others, or AI tools like ChatGPT, can help overcome creative blocks and lead to a more fulfilling and productive writing experience.
