The government on Saturday cautioned people against the use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers before lighting candles or diyas on Sunday as they are inflammable.

The Aditya Birla Group on Friday committed Rs 500 crore towards COVID-19 relief measures, of which Rs 400 crore will go to the PM-CARES Fund.

The Kumar Mangalam Birla-led $48.3 billion conglomerate will be contributing Rs 400 crore to the PM-CARES Fund, Rs 50 crore to FICCI-Aditya Birla CSR Centre for Excellence for COVID-19 relief measures, and Rs 50 crore to supply ventilators, masks and protective equipment, a statement said.

The government on Saturday put curbs on exports of diagnostic kits with a view to discourage shipments amid the coronavirus outbreak.

"The export of diagnostic kits (diagnostic or laboratory reagents on a backing, preparation diagnostic or laboratory reagents)... is restricted with immediate effect," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

Funds invested will be used for scaling production of coronavirus testing kits and expansion of molecular diagnostic solutions, Mylab said in a statement.

Commenting on the development, Poonawalla said: "In the next few weeks, we will be ramping up the production of the COVID-19 testing kits taking from 1.5 lakh tests/week to 20 lakh tests/week".

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Friday said it has made arrangements for food and water for truckers at its toll plazas as truck drivers got stranded at various places due to the sudden lockdown to prevent spread of the coronavirus.

The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), the apex body of truckers representing around 93 lakh truckers, has been seeking government intervention for its drivers stranded at various places during the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

"NHAI believes that truck drivers are truly the lifeline of our country.

In the current circumstances, when the truck drivers are executing their duties with utmost sincerity, the NHAI acknowledges their efforts and is committed to extend support to them in every possible way," the statement said.
