A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Christy Felix about her journey. Christy Felix is the CEO of uHustle. A university-based marketplace focused on giving students the tools to sell and market their side hustle. Christy Felix started the uHustle after she realized she was having trouble getting customers for her own hair braiding hustle. After growing the idea in various entrepreneurship classes and speaking with friends and colleagues she founded uHustle October of 2018. Christy Felix has also been awarded the opportunity to represent her university at the Forbes 30 Under 30 summit. A prestigious event only awards to those who are making great strides in their community. It was an honor and pleasure speaking with Christy, listen to her story here at STEAM Boston.

In Season 2 - Episode 1, we’re going to be introducing the Co-Founders of STEAM Boston. CEO, Will Ma and COO, Kunle Lawal will be telling the story of how STEAM Boston got started and what we plan to do in the future. This is the long-awaited episode that you have been waiting for. Identity In Industry opened the conversations on intersectionality in the workplace, inviting students and professionals to participate in an interactive gallery walk and open forum conversation. The event sought to strengthen the understanding of systemic issues regarding race & ethnicity based on perspective.  

The purpose of this project was to make a platform for Identity-based organizations who are not apart of a National Organization. The platform, "United We Stand, Stronger We Are", seeks to provide a professional environment for students in underrepresented communities to engage in conversations about issues that affect their community. Jasmine, a third-year Interdisciplinary Engineering Major at Wentworth, had a vision for fostering an inclusive, safe and open environment for students and professionals to share experiences and understand differences. The event sought to challenge current institutional and workplace culture to provide an inclusive environment for all. This project chose a broad community, industries & institutions, and explored it thoroughly through the lens of students, alumni and professionals who exist in those spaces.

Mogahid Fadl is currently a Senior at Wentworth Institute of Technology majoring in Computer Information Systems. Mogahid talks about Medli Music, which is essentially a mobile jukebox. You can play, you can request songs and play songs, and it’s done through two different interfaces. The first interface is for users. Pretty much what they’ll do is they’ll go in, they’ll enter a code for whatever party, the “keyword” party, or whatever setting name or title it is. And then they’ll be able to search for a song and send that song request.

Mogahid also talks about the importance of diversity in the workplace.

Alyssa is a currently Junior at Wentworth Institute of Technology majoring in Computer Science with a dual minor in Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. Alyssa talks about the journey of getting into product management in future and building an AR playground for the past 6 months at Accelerate, the innovation & entrepreneurship center at Wentworth. 

For Season 1, Episode 4, Pariss Athena talks about creating #BlackTechTwitter and her journey of becoming a Resilient Coder. #BlackTechTwitter was created because Pariss wanted to see who else in the Twitter community was Black and working in technology. Pariss aspired to become an actor, but then had to move back to Boston due to her living situation. Pariss found out about the Resilient Coders bootcamp and that is how she became a Front-End Web Developer. 

In this episode, we are featuring Bryan Brito Bonnet. Bryan is a first-generation college graduate and attended Wentworth Institute of Technology. Bryan majored in Computer Information Systems and has a passion in technology. Check out the advice that he has to give to students looking for a co-op or for graduates looking for a full-time job!
