I recently asked Gary Topp to choose 20 songs for all of us to enjoy for today’s show. They are not his TOP 20 (or rather his TOPP 20). However, its a is a set of music that is a meaningful to him. This collection of music is filled with variety touching on diverse genres.

Many of you know how much respect and admiration I have for Gary Topp. To this day, Gary is still a very influential figure in my life. He and his partner Gary Cormier introduced many of us to some of our favorite concerts. So, having Gary agree to do this means tons to me!

Those of you who listen to Lou’s Control know that there is a weekly routine or formality to each episode. Today, we put that aside so we can focus on Gary’s 20 songs.

We will pay our tributes to Jan Savage of The Seeds. Jan passed away on August 5th at the age of 77. His guitar playing and tone certainly added a signature sound to the Seeds’ music. Be prepared to hear music from the Seeds’ first four records.

I will give you a sneak peak at the soon to be released record from the Fleshtones called “Face Of The Screaming Wolf”. The album comes out in October 2020.

Speaking of new music….

James Williamson

and Deniz Tek once again teamed up. They have a new record scheduled for next month called “Two To One”. I will play a track from their soon to be released album. I will also play a tune from their Acoustic K.O. record.

Jerry Leger

In the meantime, let’s enjoy this iconic, worldly adored, Canadian Rock N Roll classic. Oshawa born Dennis McCrohan (who changed his name to Dennis Edmonton while being a member of The Sparrows) – later became known as Mars Bonfire. Mars wrote a song for Steppenwolf which became one of the most important and thematic Rock N Roll songs. This tune has always been recognized as a rebellious melody. The irony is that the inspiration for writing this song grew from Mars’ peaceful travels around the west coast mountains and ocean. Mars later saw a poster on a Hollywood storefront that said “Born To Be Bad”. A quick switch from “bad” to “wild” was the final touch.

For today, its a representation of Canadian Rock N Roll pride. Happy Birthday Canada.
