” ‘OUT of the Abyss’ is a community-based live music fundraiser that takes place on Saturday, June 8, the purpose of which is to raise money for Into the Abyss (119 Locke St S), one of Hamilton’s most unique and well-curated indie record stores, owned by Brad Germain (who is also a well known fixture in the Hamilton music scene through his presence in bands both past and present such as The Marble Index, The Dinner Belles, and Coszmos Quartette), and his wife Jenni.

A couple of years ago, they saw a need for an indie record shop on Locke Street and they set about making it happen! Congratulations to Into the Abyss for recently celebrating their very FIRST Anniversary! However, due to the disruptive construction on Locke Street – and also due to the fact that Jenni just gave birth to the couple’s first child! – there’s a chance that they might not celebrate the second year in business.

• The Main Room will feature FIVE live music performances from The Crowleys, The Dill (Dylan Hudecki), Bad Crush, and TWO “MYSTERY GUESTS” that you will NOT want to miss!

• The Lounge will feature a Mini-Record Fair, part of the proceeds of which will go towards Into the Abyss

• Advance tickets are $25.00 in advance and can be purchased online via The Casbah website. Hard copy tickets go on sale Thursday, May 23 and can be purchased at The Casbah, Dr. Disc, Revolution Records, and Into the Abyss (admission price at the door will be $30.00)

• All ticket sales monies are to be donated to Into the Abyss as well as portions of bar sales for the night

• Donut Monster will be selling donuts at the event and will donate the proceeds to Into the Abyss

• Doors open at 8:00pm and this is a 19+ event.

The ‘OUT of the Abyss’ live music event is the result of a collaborative effort between Mark Furukawa (Dr. Disc), Scott Bell (Revolution Records), Brodie Schwendiman (The Casbah), and Sean Palmerston (Hellbound.ca), so make sure you come out to raise funds for Brad and Jenni, and also to celebrate indie record stores and our vibrant music community here in Hamilton!”

Gillian Nicola took an unusual route to becoming a folk/Americana singer-songwriter: trained in classical voice, Nicola spent her teens gigging in a classic rock cover band, singing Janis Joplin and Led Zeppelin before launching herself into alt-country when she began writing songs. Nicola’s music centres around her chameleonic vocals – at one moment with a hint of tobacco in her voice, the next outright rocking – strummed and finger picked guitar, and versatile, melodic songwriting. Nicola’s songs are often built around open and alternate guitar tunings that allow her to throw her music theory upbringing out the window. Nicola’s debut full-length album will be released on May 3, 2019
