  • Steelers Football - The Terrible Podcast - Episode 1653
    December 16, 2022 -

Season 13, Episode 62 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the latest news concerning the Pittsburgh Steelers as they get ready to play the Carolina Panthers on the road on Sunday afternoon.

Alex and I go over the injuries that the Steelers are dealing with ahead of the Sunday game and that includes us speculating more about the Sunday status of several players who failed to practice on either Wednesday or Thursday. We discuss the status of quarterback Kenny Pickett heading into Friday and the decision the Steelers will make as to who the starting quarterback will and should be should the rookie be unable to play on Sunday.

Alex and I have a little discussion about the outlook for the 2023 Steelers after going down a rabbit hole. We discuss the holes on both sides of the football as the 2022 regular season begins to wind down.Alex and I then move on to parse the notable comments made on Thursday by Steelers' coordinators Matt Canada and Teryl Austin. We go over what Canada said about the quarterback position, his thoughts on guard James Daniels and tight end Connor Heyward and more. We talk about what Austin had to say about the team's inside linebackers on Thursday and specifically when it comes to lack of playmaking.

Alex and I also discuss rookie defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal at this point in the season and what the future might hold for him.

In the middle of this show, Alex and I preview the Steelers' Sunday opponent, the Carolina Panthers. We couldn’t secure a Panthers' beat writer this week, so we look at the Panthers on both sides of the football based on their recent tape. We attempt to cover all the usual angles when it comes to previewing this Sunday game.

As usual, Alex and I wind down this Friday show by providing our picks of all the weekend games against the spread before picking the final score of the Steelers' game against the Panthers.

We mix in other Steelers talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post, and then we close this show out by hitting the e-mail machine for several listener questions.

Season 13, Episode 61 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the latest concerning the Pittsburgh Steelers as they head into Week 15 of the 2022 regular season and their Sunday road game against the Carolina Panthers. Before doing so, however, we talk a little about the recent and sudden passing of Mike Leach, a legendary college football coach.

Alex and I discuss some recent roster moves made by the Steelers on Wednesday and what both mean overall. we also discuss the future of the Steelers' defensive line and if injured defensive end Chris Wormley will be part of the team's plans in 2023.

Alex and I discuss Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett early in this show as he looks to get through concussion protocol this week. We also talk about whether it will be Mitch Trubisky or Mason Rudolph that starts in place of Pickett on Sunday should the rookie not be cleared to play.

We move on to discuss several comments made by head coach Mike Tomlin on Tuesday during his weekly press conference. This includes us discussing Tomlin's response to being asked about the protocol process, the play of the defense on Sunday, Week 15's starting quarterback and much more.

We move on to talk more about the Steelers Week 14 Sunday home loss against the Baltimore Ravens now that we both have fully digested the all-22 tape from that contest. We go over the good and bad on both sides of the football from Sunday. We then talk about the scenarios in Week 15 that could happen that would result in the Steelers being eliminated from playoff contention with three weeks remaining in the 2022 regular season.

Obviously, several other topics are addressed along the way, and we close this show by answering several emails that we have received from listeners the last few days.

Season 13, Episode 60 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Sunday afternoon home loss against the Baltimore Ravens.

We start by talking about the pregame inactive list ahead of Sunday's game and how outside linebacker Malik Reed was on it. We also discuss the injuries suffered during Sunday's loss to the Ravens. We spend a little time talking about the early head injury suffered by rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett and how the concussion protocol was used that allowed him to return briefly before exiting for good. We also talk about if the tackle of Pickett should have been a penalty.

We move on to fully break down the play of the Steelers on the defensive side of the football to start. That includes a lot of talk about how the defensive front was run on all game and even after the Ravens' third-string quarterback entered the game late in the third quarter. We discuss the big drive the Ravens had after they blocked a Steelers field goal attempt and the final offensive series that was used to run out the clock, which included a key third down conversion via a run.

Alex and I then flip over to the offensive side of the football. We talk about the three interceptions thrown by quarterback Mitch Trubisky after he entered the game and how impactful they were to the loss. We discuss Trubisky being overly aggressive after entering the game. Some praise for rookie wide receiver George Pickens is mixed in and we give our initial thoughts on the Steelers' running game and offensive line play prior to the all-22 tape dropping.

Alex and I save time to talk about the Steelers;' special teams play on Sunday and how that was disappointing as well.

We mix in other Steelers’ talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post. We also answer a few listener emails late in this show and talk a little about the Steelers' next game and where they sit as far as possible playoff chances.
