How to assign chores

This video shares one of the most useful tools in deciding and assigning what chores is whose responsibility and how to establish the corrective actions when things are not takes care of as per agreed upon. The name of the game is sharing. These are processed that have to be shared and cannot be a top down approach If the desired result is getting things done and teaching the kids to take their responsibilities and respect their own promises.

How to disengage

Disengaging is a very useful strategy that stepfathers should always keep available in their toolbox. We are not always in the mood or have the energy to engage with a step kid that is not being at peak performance.

We can get mad, or get frustrated cause we have to give in, but the weapon of disengagement is always available.

While not to be used too frequently, it is a wonderful tool to get a breather. Let things slide off you and do not voluntarily tackle issues that you know will not, at that time, bring any good. It takes some effort but the rewards are quite surprising.

Does parenting ever stop?

Yes, parenting ends and it has to end. If we do not stop parenting the kids are not allowed to develop their own identities. What never ends is us being parents, that, we remain for life. Not only does parenting have to stop, if it does not, we have to put an end to it.

Why step parents should pray

When kids are scared of the dark, they look for mom and dad when mom and dad seem to have no answers, who do they go to? Prayer is like an inner dialogue which will transfigure you and allow you a clear mind, an open heart and a willing mind. Do not pass over this opportunity to gain a perspective from a higher ground.
