She’s not only one of two state delegates representing residents in Ohio County, but Erikka Storch also is the president of the Wheeling Chamber of Commerce, so I will ask her to wear both hats to discuss local economic development and what state government could do to help spur projects in the Northern Panhandle.

 

 Local musician Luke Burkhardt has been signed to be the opening act for this summer’s Blame My Roots Country Music Festival, so we’ll talk about how the opportunity arose and how he plans to take advantage of it.

 

Johnny Kazemka is a realtor with Harvey Goodman, and he is also a young man who enjoys highlighting the many positives we have here in the Upper Ohio Valley on a Facebook page known as “Ohio Valley Spotlights.”

 

Johnny and I will discuss what he has featured so far, what information he plans to offer this week, and also his plans to grow the effort throughout the region.

Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard and Chief Deputy John Schultz are set to return to the show and a few of our topics will include the delays he expects the Monument Bridge project to cause along Interstate 70 and in other areas of the county, what development he expects to take place at the Ohio County Airport, and the criminal activity that has been taking place at The Highlands and around the county.

 

We will also discuss what secondary roads the sheriff and the chief deputy are the worst right now in Ohio County and whether or not the state plans to address them in the near future.

Marshall County Sheriff Bill Helms will join me during the first hour of the show to discuss several topics, including recent criminal activity, traffic issues out in the county, future development, and associated “Superloads,” and the current activity involving the gas and oil industries.

 

During our second segment, Sheriff Helms and I will recall how we grew up and what trouble we got into and compare those experiences to what today’s younger people are encountering during their younger years.

“Liner Notes” is a weekly segment I do with my good friend Jon Banco so we can get the word out about what live and local entertainment will be available in the Wheeling area this weekend. We will discuss those shows, a few upcoming events, and what to look forward to when the Centre Market Concert Series begins in June.

 

Local musician Dustin Kildow will join us on the phone to tell us about his music and where he will be performing this weekend and in the future.

 

Several local officials have urged residents to get their Covid-19 vaccinations and that’s because, for the first time since the pandemic began, the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department will have to dispose of spoiled doses this weekend because of a lack of interest.

 

Lou Vargo, the director of the Wheeling-Ohio County Emergency Management Agency, is scheduled to join me to discuss the lack of interest displayed by people under the age of 60, how the dose disposal will impact future supply, and what the lack of “herd immunity” will for the Upper Ohio Valley and the rest of the country.

 

Vargo and I also will discuss the ongoing restructuring of the Ohio County Development Authority now that he is no longer a member of the OCDA, and what it means for future economic development in Ohio County.

Ryan Wall is one of the owners of the Highlanders FC, a professional soccer team that will begin play here in the Wheeling area this year. Ryan will offer details on where the club’s home games will take place, what teams they will play against, and why he and the owner club owners have chosen this area.

 

The Lady Dragons of Cameron High will play for the Class A girls basketball championship tomorrow and the boys' team is set to travel to the state capital next week to battle for the single-A title. Tom Hart, the head coach of the boys' team, will join me for the final segment to talk about both squads making school history this spring.

Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard is scheduled to return to the show to offer the latest news as far as criminal activity, and we’ll also discuss how he and his deputies handle the county’s unsolved cold cases – including the murder of Sister Robin back in the 1970s.

 

Former Wheeling council member Don Atkinson is scheduled to return to the show this afternoon to discuss several topics, including the massive cleanup on Wheeling Island, the uncertain future of the former OVMC campus, the affection some people have for living within a downtown district, and the demolitions we would both like to see take place in areas of the city.

Performer Logan Wojcik will be this week’s special guest and we’ll discuss his busy show schedule, how he kept sharp during the state’s live music ban, what music he’s been working on for his upcoming gigs.

 

Rick Leigh is a native of Bellaire and the owner of R.L. Strength & Conditioning, but a few days each week his concentration switches to the valley’s young people and how he can help them make better choices now and in the future. Leigh has developed a fitness program that involves young people from both sides of the Ohio River and takes place at the Nelson Jordan Center in East Wheeling.

Rick will sit down with me during the second hour to explain the program, how others can get involved, and why he spends so many hours per week volunteering to help local children.
