In Matthew 10 Jesus gives instructions to the disciples as He sends them out. In verses 2-4 Matthew lists the 12 disciples and then in verses 5 and following He gives them instructions. In verse 1 they are called “disciples” and then in verse 2 they are called “apostles.” A “disciple” studies under someone but an “apostle” is sent out. We see the different term in verse 2 because Jesus is sending them out. In this chapter Jesus prepares them and us for persecution. This chapter includes instructions for sacrifice as we follow Jesus.

In Leviticus chapter 9 we see the continued instructions for the establishment of the priesthood. We see the first tabernacle service after the ordination of Aaron and his sons. The ESV Study Bible shares that this chapter “functions as a sequel to the Sinai event; just as God came down to deliver His covenant to His people, so now He descends upon His alter to dwell intimately with them.” Verses 23-24 and 24 are amazingly powerful!

In Matthew chapter 9 we see people absolutely amazed at who Jesus is. Jesus goes to His own town which Capernaum verse 13 tells us in this case. He forgives a paralytic of His sins and that shows His deity. Then He heals the man. Jesus then calls Matthew starting in verse 9. Verses 14-17 are about fasting. Verses 18-38 include more miracles.

Matthew 8:

We see Jesus heal many people and cast out demons. Jesus heals a leper. Jesus heals the servant of a centurion and makes a positive example of this man’s faith. Notice the centurion is a Gentile. Jesus talks about discipleship. Jesus heals Simon Peter’s mother in law. Then, Jesus cast out demons.

We see more details about how they handle the offerings. We see the guilt offering and peace offerings and a summary.

In Matthew 6 Jesus continues the sermon on the Mount. Jesus gives various instructions. He talks specifically about prayer, as well as other spiritual disciplines, and closes with an exhortation to seek God and His Kingdom.

In Leviticus 5 God continues to give instructions for making offerings. We see that God is holy and we need to cover our sins.
