In the episode I had the pleasure in chatting to Steven Russell. In our chat we spoke about our own vulnerabilities and the benefit of opening ourselves up to our vulnerabilities to make us stronger. We also chatted about how we might look back on the way in which a lot of young people are being isolated and excluded.
Elements is a social & emotional mental health (SEMH) support service for primary & secondary schools.
Steven enjoys listening to Simon Sinek. ‘he's been a real inspiration to me and elements, he said, "start with why" so here we go’.
WHY DOES ELEMENTS' EXIST AND WHY SHOULD PEOPLE CARE?
Elements like most things began as a simple thought in my mind and so like a seed that thought began to grow. Elements exist for multiple reasons however the overarching reason is to simply give my energy to a great cause, our children. When I was a child my life was extremely chaotic and uncertain, while teachers were concerned about Stevens lack of concentration in class, Steven was sat in a classroom wondering where he would be sleeping that night. I experienced multiple moves, multiple rejections, multiple breakdowns and yet despite everything I faced as a child, I overcome adversity with support, guidance and belief from others.
So now I'm in a fantastic position to be that person in another child's life with an optimistic outlook.
