  • Archipelago of Light interview with Dmitri Lincoln Mehlhorn

What happens when the technology designed to connect us becomes the very mechanism used to control us?

Dmitri Mehlhorn’s debut thriller, “Archipelago of Light” explores whether free societies can survive modern threats like AI and rising autocracy without turning into oppressive systems themselves. It argues that the ultimate danger to civilization is not just external technology, but human nature itself, asking if humanity still shares enough basic truth to maintain a moral society.

  • Fighting for New York: Activism for Health and Social Justice Since the 1960s

I spoke with Nicholas Freudenberg about his new book.

Nicholas Freudenberg’s Fighting for New York: Activism for Health and Social Justice Since the 1960s offers a universal blueprint for communities nationwide. All cities face the same reality: public health is profoundly shaped by housing, wages, clean air, and criminal justice. By framing these struggles as core health issues, this book delivers actionable, cross-movement strategies to help local advocates build healthier, more equitable hometowns everywhere.

    What’s in this book:

    • A chapter-by-chapter framework built around the questions every campaign must answer: How do you define the problem? How do you engage your community? How do you choose tactics — and know when they've worked?
    • Case studies of nine major New York campaigns across housing, labor, food, environmental justice, reproductive rights, and mass incarceration
    • An honest accounting of activist failures and missed opportunities, not just victories
    • Cross-cutting lessons from six decades of campaigns, translated into actionable guidance for today that travels well beyond New York City
    • A closing call for the people of New York and other cities to create a people's movement for health — a shared agenda across movements that have too often worked in silos
