'फलप्राप्तीच्छां विना यानि उत्तमानि कार्याणि क्रियेरन् तानि एव सत्कार्याणि भवेयुः । यत् क्रियेत तत् निःस्वार्थभावनया कर्तव्यम् । जनानाम् उपकारः यतः स्यात् तादृशानि कार्याणि करणीयानि । येभ्यः कार्येभ्यः मनसः आत्मनः च संस्कारः‌ भवेत् तानि एव उत्तमकार्याणि । प्रशंसाप्राप्तीच्छा विकृतिरूपा एव । अतः तादृशीम् इच्छां परित्यज्य शुद्धेन हृदयेन प्रजाहितकार्याणि कुरु' इति कश्चन संन्यासी कञ्चन राजानं बोधयति अस्यां कथायाम् । ततः ज्ञानोदयं प्राप्तः राजा सत्कार्यसङ्कल्पं कृत्वा तं संन्यासिनं भक्त्या नमस्कृतवान् ।
(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)

A saint advised a king: “Good deeds are those done without desire for reward. Act with selflessness, aiming at the welfare of people. The best actions are those that refine both mind and character. Seeking praise is a distortion—abandon it and work with a pure heart for the good of all.” Hearing this, the king gained insight, resolved to perform noble deeds, and bowed to the saint with devotion.
