Cultivating the values in the Beatitudes make us salt and light to the world around us. As messengers of God's Kingdom we have a preserving effect (salt) to the world around us. And our good deeds illuminate (shine a light) on God's Kingdom.

In the Beatitudes, Jesus gives a counter-cultural message- to mourn over our sins, to hunger and thirst for righteousness, to be poor in spirit.

He wants to fill us with more of His Spirit, we just need to recognize our need and ask Him.

We live in the tension that the Kingdom of God is here, but not fully here yet.

In that tension, we want to have faith for God to move in powerful ways now. We also want to trust in His goodness regardless of our current circumstances.

Jesus was tempted in every way that we are, but He did not sin.

Where we have been unfaithful, Jesus has been faithful and made the way for us.

When we are tempted we need to submit to God (align ourselves with Him) and resist the devil.

We don't just leave our sin, but we gain the Kingdom of God.

We see in the life of Joseph that our obedience to God matters.

Joseph's obedience was costly, quick, and consequential.

To follow Jesus implies obedience to Him.

He determines where we go and how we get there and he sets an example for how to live.

As we look at the lineage of Jesus we see that God always finds a way, that He is love, He brings beauty from ashes, and He honors those who trust Him.
