Stonewalling occurs when someone shuts down, refuses to communicate, or withdraws from a conversation, often as a defense mechanism from hearing the truth.

When confronted with facts/truth,  this response behavior is a form of conflict avoidance. In some cases, to manipulate, exert power, and punish the other person.

Let's face it. Normal communication skills involve conflict resolution. Working out problems.

Not evading them.
