Welcome to the third episode of conversations with Harriet! In this episode we dive into why and how to stop caring about the opinions of others.
This is a struggle I see people face all the time. We strive to be liked and accepted by others and to a point, that's okay. But when we start to get negatively impacted by the opinions of others, we need to step up and take action.
I dive into this topic from two angles:
1) The anticipation stage - this is where we anticipate other people will think badly of us.
2) The response stage - this is where people have given us their opinion and I talk about how to respond, reframe and prevent.
Time stamps:
3:07 - Introduction to the anticipation stage
5:38 - Understanding what other people's opinions are made of
7:55 - Highlighting what you are missing out on as a result of placing value on other people's opinions
9:06 - Give people the benefit of the doubt
10:43 - Exploring what we can do when people do give us their opinion
11:20 - Circling back to understanding what an opinion is
11:58 - Communicate to others how you want to be treated
14:21 - Reframe your beliefs about uncomfortable opinions
