Stop posting people without their consent
I’ll keep talking about it until I’m blue in the face. Stop posting people without their consent — strangers, peers, friends, family, whoever. Doing so has become far too normal with the rise of smartphones, social media, and recommendation algorithms.
It’s our job as consumers to hold each other accountable. Though, I do think platforms have the responsibility to build in features that support this issue, such as the ability to report and in turn, remove content that you did not consent to being posted of yourself. Though (again), only if you did not originally post it yourself, as crackdowns on reposts would get into more complex territory… but I mean anything’s up for debate.
With that being said, hiding the guys’ faces wasn’t necessary because they decided to post the clarification videos themselves. But I wanted to because it felt like the only reason they posted was due to a loss of agency over their identity/reputation.
