This week we heard the words that Jesus said, "What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light and what you hear whispered proclaim from the rooftops."

We asked the vulnerable question of what we feel is being whispered to us, meaning what God calls us to do with our lives. Is Go calling us to advocate for social justice? Calling us to better our lives? What is it that we fear or is holding us back?

This week we read from Matthew 10 where Jesus sends his disciples on a missionary journey. Jesus sends them dependent upon the hospitality of others. They had to learn to ask for what they needed.

We talked a lot this Sunday about the value of naming what we need and asking for help. It seems somewhat counterintuitive to name our needs but when we have the courage to name them to others we experience a deep and profound joy because it reveals to others how they might help and love us better.

We can sometimes live by platitudes that we hope to be true but aren't, such as we can have deep compassion for others while not having compassion for ourselves.

Compassion is a recognition of our common humanity and that each of our stories is made of strength and struggle. And I depth of compassion and honor of our own stories of strength and struggle are the very elements that connect us with others.

This week we will talk about what it means to to learn the practice of compassion for ourselves so that we might care for others more deeply.

Some of the first words you will find when you open a bible is that humankind shouldn't be alone. And yet we live in a society that is increasingly lonely.

God's call to us is to be the people of the community first and foremost. Because vitality and goodness come out of togetherness. A church rooted in the community is needed more than ever in our society. Not tomorrow... but now.

This Pentecost Sunday we yet again celebrate the birth of the church. We celebrate this day when God's spirit pours out among us so that others might hear and receive the message of God's mercy, love, forgiveness, and grace.

So often our inner voice wonders why others "don't get it" the way we do. But the truth is that often we speak in a way that we might understand. Yet Pentecost God's spirit pours out among people in their native tongue. They hear the beautiful mercies of God in a language they can receive.

This is the second week in our series "Nice to Meet You!" We are talking about the ways the particular ways we contribute our lives to this community. It is also an excellent series to get to know the heartbeat of this church.

This Sunday we talked about what it means to be present in the good times, the bad times, and all the times in between. There is something healing about being present in one another's lives. It's simple yet intentional. We must find ways to make space for one another, humanize one another, and be present for one another.
