My guest on Stories Connect People podcast is Amy Barfield with Family Haven. Amy found her calling to help others very early in her life. Today, she is the executive director of Forsyth Country Family Haven an organization that supports victims of abuse.
What if you found yourself in an abuse relationship or a family or friend was in an abusive relationship. Would you have the courage to leave? Would they have the courage to leave?
Abuse comes in many forms… physical abuse, financial abuse, verbal and emotional abuse to name a few. Abuse is about control. Amy shares that victims generally go back 7 times before they fully break from an abusive relationship. The "why" to stay or "why" to leave is different for everyone.
Amy shares the great work her organization is doing to advocate, educate, shelter and support victims of abuse. They even have programs to educate teens about what a healthy relationship looks like. Teens dating violence is very common.
Amy and her team are making a difference in the community by helping others get the tools, courage, confidence and resources to make decisions for their family that will likely change their life.
