Cal Poly's newest sport, flag football, will have their first season in Spring 2027. Right now, head coach Rod Sherman and current player Sydney Bertoni are laying the groundwork to establish a vision and a team culture. Reporter Andrew Aguiniga spoke to both of them about how they are shaping the program.

Cayden Ward and Avery Knapp, both contributors to their respective Cal Poly basketball teams, were not awarded a scholarship in their first year. Through resilience and dedication, they were both able to land themselves scholarships and a role on the team. Reporter Keegan Oates spoke to these athletes about recruitment stories and how they navigated the high pressure of being a walk-on Division I athlete.

The sound of drumming filled Cal Poly’s University Union as Ichimi Daiko returned to campus for the first time in nearly a decade. Hosted by Cal Poly’s International Center in collaboration with the Japanese Student Association and other campus partners, the performance celebrated Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Month as well as the end of the International Symposium. Reporter Lauren Quijano tells us more about the Japanese tradition.

Cal Poly officially named its newest student space Mustang Commons, bringing several cultural and academic support centers under one roof. Located near North Perimeter Road and Safety Way East, the building now houses the Latinx Center for Academic Success and Achievement, also known as LA CASA, the Black Academic Excellence Center, TRIO Achievers, Cal Poly Scholars and the Educational Opportunity Program. These centers were previously located in Building 52. Reporter Lauren Quijano tells us more about the new space and how it is impacting Cal Poly students.

In downtown San Luis Obispo, transportation is familiar: cars navigate through intersections, bikes weave through traffic and pedestrians file sidewalks. Robert Greheta, owner of Ubert!, transports his customers in a less-than-conventional way. Greheta freely gives rides around town on his pedicab and aims to create an experience that takes you from point A to B, while having fun along the way. Reporter Dylan White spoke with the man behind the pedicab, telling us more about his unique business.

Local Cal Poly band Set in Stone formed during move-in week, after freshman bass player Matt Jarman met his future bandmates through mutual friends and Greek life. After connecting over music and practicing in parking garages around campus, the group started playing live shows around San Luis Obispo. Reporter Lily Segelman tells us more about the band's performances and experiences with local house shows.

With the revival of vinyl records in the music scene, Central Coast Music, the shop Eddie Frawley once ran out of his small home off of Morro Bay Blvd., has had a surge in business with customers of all ages pulling dusty vinyl records off the shelf. Each one of his records, guitars and instrument pieces has its own unique story, reflecting years of collection and intriguing interest. Reporter Larsen Jensen takes us into the shop.

The loud roar of an LS engine inside the body of a 1988 Corvette echoes off a storage container in Cal Poly’s Research Development Center. The car is a project built entirely by Cal Poly students in the Performance Automotive Communications, Engineering and Design club, also known as PACED. Scammers have found a new hunting ground at Cal Poly, and they're hiding in plain sight.  Fraudsters are infiltrating GroupMe chats and digital spaces that students rely on to connect with clubs and organizations, impersonating their peers with convincing fake profiles designed to fly under the radar. Reporter Lia Griffiths tells us more about how this has been affecting Cal Poly students and beyond.

Cal Poly Jazz students and alumni are fighting to keep the jazz community alive in San Luis Obispo. In the heart of Downtown SLO, a hub of alumni from Cal Poly to Cuesta College, come together to share their love of jazz. They regularly appear at local venues like BA Start Arcade and Taproom, Libertine Brewing Company and others. Reporter Sophia Moreno takes us into the current local jazz scene.
