In this week's episode, Pop gives us more details about his experience living within a family of four on the small farm that his dad purchased in BZ Corners during his adolescence in the late 1940s. They started with nothing more than a truck camper tent leveled out on lava-blocks, and a few small bedrooms built with the help of Grandpa Jess Hepler. Hear about outhouse dilemmas, learning to drive tractor on a 1926 Iron-Wheeled Fordson, and moving his bed out to the end of the grove during the summers to enjoy some solace and spiritual contentedness.

In this week's episode, Pop recalls life in the Columbia River Gorge transitioning into adolescence in the mid-to-late 1940's. He describes his memories of experiencing the joy and celebrations of VE Day, and later VJ Day, as well as the boys that had gone off to war returning as men. His dad brought the family back from the Dalles to BZ Corners, purchasing a small farm where they temporarily lived in an army officer's tent with minimal comforts. You will also hear about the great flood of 1948, which destroyed the city of Vanport Oregon, and how this impacted the greater Portland area as well as residents in the Gorge.
