Witnessing her mom's health after a stroke, Sheila felt compelled to write her mom's story, then realized she wanted to write more. She transitioned from her first act to her second act as an author or dreamer, where she does not experience objective measurements. Sheila is very passionate about language, as she loves the way words and images resonate. She feels that writing is a way to share what experiences have taught her and to express her truth. Sheila shares the following powerful nuggets of life wisdom: - a book is the heart that beats in the chest of another - don't be afraid to make mistakes - don't second guess yourself - just keep going - transition takes time and can't be rushed - make decisions that bring you joy - for those that are transitioning from act one to act two: you may not see the new work coming, embrace the surge, recognize that it will take time, the new work does not invalidate the old, it builds on it. Also, if you choose to take pursue a second act, then you get to keep your passions, you get to revise your purpose and find a payoff that you might not have previously anticipated. Writing as a "second act" is thrilling and humbling. Sheila uses skills and work habits learned in her first act to express thoughts and feelings--the fruit of decades--that she hadn't articulated before. She's still engaged with the world, but she's exploring in a different dimension. In addition to career and motherhood, she's practiced yoga, hiked, and dabbled in foreign languages. Born in a taxi in Manhattan, she studied at the Bronx High School of Science, Harvard University, and the University of California at Berkeley. She continues to live in Phoenix with her husband and her new, rescued dog. https://www.sheilagrinell.com/ https://www.instagram.com/sheilagrinell/ https://www.facebook.com/Sheila-Grinell-author-778119465648171/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/sheila-grinell-041b915 http://experiencemattersaz.org https://designingyour.life/ tags: Sheila, Grinell, author, The, Contract, Appetite, Novel, storiesthatempower.com, stories that empower, empowering stories, empowerment stories, stories of empowerment, stories of empowering others, self empowerment stories, stories empower, inspire, inspiring, inspiration, uplift, uplifting, upliftment, hope, light, Sean

Katherine knew some things were brewing in her life; in her marriage, her father's alcoholism and abandonment of the family. She developed a food addiction and attempted suicide. Then, Katherine had a wake up call. She began a journey of healing her body and heart. Katherine changed her relationship with food and body. Now, she helps people with the process of healing from the inside out. Katherine shares these powerful nuggets of life wisdom: - don't let your pain act itself out - we still have to do the work - our pain can be a part of our path - hope is truth that is still more - hope is healing when we are hurt and injured - real people telling real stories is inspirational - we have such capacities within us, beyond our own resilience - be patient with and trust the process - be in the company of others - challenge the thoughts that are not true For many, counseling offers the possibility of making lasting, positive changes in life and in relationships. For others, it offers the realization that by dissolving old patterns of thinking and believing, life is perfect exactly the way it is. Ultimately, it is about helping others live and love as their most conscious self. For those interested, she provides a powerful mindfulness ritual at the beginning of each session, which can help clients be more present for the session and more connected to themselves throughout the process. Her overall approach is direct, interactive and collaborative with a goal of creating greater sense of personal and relational well-being. After enjoying years of working in the field of Public Health, she experienced an inner stirring....like the wind at the change of a season. What ensued was a process of reflection, curiosity and ultimately trust. It became clear that Public Health was not her final stop and that what was right and true was to follow in the footsteps of her father and become a therapist. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, she loves bringing the ideals of Public Health together with her work as a counselor, offering to those she serves a holistic approach that includes celebrating diversity in all its forms. https://www.innergyonline.com/ https://harborglowpublishing.com/ https://www.facebook.com/innergycounseling/ https://twitter.com/InnergyC https://www.instagram.com/innergycounseling/ tags: Katherine, Jansen, Byrkit, personal, relational, transformation, counseling, counselor, licensed, professional, counselor, holistic, mindfulness, storiesthatempower.com, stories that empower, empowering stories, empowerment stories, stories of empowerment, stories of empowering others, self empowerment stories, stories empower, inspire, inspiring, inspiration, uplift, uplifting, upliftment, hope, light, Sean

Mary experienced addiction, alcohol, failed relationships and a father dying of cancer. Through meditation, she had an awakening and realized what she'd been escaping from. Mary's partnership with horses taught her to accept and not judge herself. Even though she'd always been authentic, she started becoming comfortable with her authentic self. Once Mary did that, she accepted herself and others. She transitioned from being authentic to accepting life and who she was. Mary shares these powerful nuggets of life wisdom: - relating is how we can grow with each other - be authentic in all situations - when we are authentic, then we are living from our hearts - don't follow traditional paths if it doesn't authentic to you - seek to be a partner with your life, don't try to control it - heart is the important difference - it's OK to be afraid - we can be afraid and still take steps to heal - feel acceptance for who you are - self judgement and self doubt come from fear - go inward to get answers https://marycorning.com/ tags: Mary, Corning, author, speaking, life, consultant, mentor, Perfect, Practice, Philosophy, for, Living, an, Authentic, and, Transparent, Life, storiesthatempower.com, stories that empower, empowering stories, empowerment stories, stories of empowerment, stories of empowering others, self empowerment stories, stories empower, inspire, inspiring, inspiration, uplift, uplifting, upliftment, hope, light, Sean

Kate found out how different life is as a non-mom after she and her former husband abandoned infertility treatments, quit their corporate jobs and moved from a suburb to a rural community to raise sheep. So began her quest for identity as a non-mom in a culture high on family. Kate shares the following nuggets of life wisdom: - there are more ways to look at life, giving and connecting than just biological - we are so much alike, than different, - there is so much opportunity for us to learn in our lifetimes - curiosity, heart and openness create bridges between the largest gaps that we might imagine - our stories can be a source of understanding, identity and a feeling of being heard - we have the opportunity to define 'the path' - be open to the wisdom of elders Kate Kaufmann is fascinated by how women who don't have children craft their lives. There are no navigation charts for life outside the mainstream of motherhood. Kate got her first inkling how different life as a non-mom can be after she and her former husband abandoned infertility treatments, quit their corporate jobs, and moved from a suburb in an excellent school district to a rural community to raise sheep. Everyone in the country seemed to have kids. So began her quest for identity as a non-mom in a culture high on family. Since 2012 Kate has talked intimately with hundreds of North American women who don't have children, ranging in age from twenty-four to ninety-one. She's relentless in her search for pertinent data about not having kids in both the academic and popular press. Kate has also had the privilege of speaking about the childfree and childless with organizations such as AARP, the Oregon Community Foundation, and several colleges, universities, and retirement communities. Kate has an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts, an M.A. in Management, and a B.A. in Psychology, as well as professional background in corporate staffing, training, and consulting. She's lived in various urban, suburban, rural, and coastal communities and currently calls Portland, Oregon home. Kate is proud of knowing how to drive a tractor. https://www.katekaufmann.com/ tags: Kate, Kaufmann, author, Do, You, Have, Kids, Life, When, The, Answer, Is, No, storiesthatempower.com, stories that empower, empowering stories, empowerment stories, stories of empowerment, stories of empowering others, self empowerment stories, stories empower, inspire, inspiring, inspiration, uplift, uplifting, upliftment, hope, light, Sean
