Maximilia Cordero warned people about Jeffrey Epstein years before the world understood who he really was. In 2007, she filed a lawsuit alleging that Epstein had lured her into his Manhattan townhouse as a teenager with promises of a Victoria’s Secret modeling career. Her complaint didn’t just name Epstein. It also named Victoria’s Secret-related entities, the corporation connected to the townhouse, and billionaire Les Wexner. Instead of becoming a major story, Maximilia was mocked, outed as transgender by the press, dismissed by the courts, and eventually became the subject of a $28,000 settlement agreement containing provisions restricting what she could say and how she could assist other accusers. Years later, many of the allegations and patterns she described would become central to the public understanding of Epstein and his use of the Victoria’s Secret name to approach young women.

Susan Polk was just 15 years old when she began seeing 40-year-old therapist Felix Polk. Within a year, their relationship allegedly became sexual. At 24, she married him. At 44, she stabbed him 27 times.

But this story is far more complicated than a wife murdering her husband. In 2015, a 21-year-old German woman named Michele picked up a suitcase, walked out of her mother’s home, and vanished. For more than a decade, there was no public search, no major investigation, and almost no movement in her case. Then her name appeared in the Jeffrey Epstein files.
