Hi, my name is Shanice and I'm from a little town in Egypt. I never expected my life to become so crazy!

While growing up I was an only child to an army Dad and housewife. We moved around quite a lot because of Dad's job.

When I was in 2nd grade Mom left for the supermarket and never returned. But, I always prayed she'd come back because a girl needs her mother.

Then one day during summer vacation all that changed because of her. Dad walked into the house with a brunette on his arm.

'Shanice, I'd like you to meet my wife, Gabbi."

"You're what?"

"Dad! How could you bring some stranger to live with us? Did you even consider how I'd feel about this?'

I stormed to my bedroom and slammed the door. 

Over the next few days, Dad applied for permanent residence, and enrolled me in some stupid preppy private school. I was stuck! 

I'd never been in a place for more than six months and I felt my anxiety grow. This was all Gabbi's fault and I needed to get rid of her!

One night I snuck into their bedroom and changed the time for their alarm clock. This made Gabbi late for an important meeting and she lost a client.

Another time I placed hair remover in Gabbi's shampoo and my favourite was adding dead worms to the top of Gabbi's cake. The oven smelled like burning fat for days.

I first met Kim when I was six and I found her alone in our backyard. My scream attracted my mom who came running to see what the problem was and she was also surprised when she saw a strange child in the backyard. She didn’t understand what was happening until a few seconds later when a large sweaty man ran into our backyard. 

The strange child laughed as soon as she saw him and he picked her up and held her in his arms. He apologized profusely and then we realized that he was her father. It seemed like she had slipped away when no one was looking and had somehow found her way into our backyard. The man was a new neighbor who had just moved in a week ago and was still getting used to the neighborhood. That was how I met Kim, or at least that’s how I remember it, although Kim swears it happened in a whole different way.

Within a year, Amanda, Freya and Clara had moved into the neighborhood too and pretty soon, we all became friends, bonded by our mutual likeness for causing mischief. We were inseparable in the years that followed and we all had just turned 20.

Out of all of us in the group, I was the most attractive and desirable because of my model-like features that included my thin waist, tall height and slim, long legs. Kim was the richest and the most spoiled, as she always got whatever she wanted because her parents could afford it.

There was a boy who lived around, he was not part of our group, but we all knew him, and he knew us too. His name was Fika, and he was a tall, athletic looking guy. He was handsome too, and one day Kim confessed to us that she had a crush on him. We all teased her about it and she made us promise not to tell anyone.

Hi, my name is Beatrice and I'm from a little-known town in Michigan. Ever since we were little, my sister Angela and I competed on everything. Grades, boys, mom's attention, everything. I always won, Angela didn't even come close, but one day, she did.

Pencils and ripped papers flew in the air and scattered everywhere. I held scissors in one hand and a blowtorch in the other. Angela cowered in a corner of the room, terrified and helpless.

"You call this art?"

I kicked one of her drawing books like it was a football.

"I'm going to burn it all today!"

“Beatrice, DON’T!”

“OR WHAT??”

“Mom bought me those!”

“Doesn't mean you deserve them!”

The blowtorch slipped from my hands and fell to the floor. Angela and I fought for it but she didn't match my strength.  Jealousy and rage were fueling me.

I held the blowtorch ready to light it and grabbed her tattered drawing book. She took a step forward and before she could take another one, I set her book on fire and pointed the blowtorch at her.

Hi there, my name is Madelyn and I’m from Los Angeles. Ever wondered if it was possible for a quiet college student to end up being the most feared person in juvy? Let me tell you how.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was an eight year old genius and I was being called to the stage to collect my huge trophy for winning a science competition.

“In first place, Madelyn Jones!”

Everyone cheered and I was beaming. I was already halfway across the stage when the announcer looked confused.

“Oops it seems that there’s been a mix-up. The winner is actually Tyler Lee. I’m sorry Madelyn.”

Everyone started laughing. I walked off the stage in shame and ran to the bathroom to cry. My friends tried to comfort me but it was no use. After that day, I decided that something like this would never happen to me again. I’d have to become a perfectionist and be the absolute best at everything!

And that’s exactly what I did. I never lost another competition again and I was always at the top of my class.

I waltzed through the school’s entrance on my first day at my senior high school and tried to find my way around but then I saw...HIM. And I swear my mind went completely blank. He was PERFECT and as he stared back at me I could feel myself melting. It was like my mind and my body weren’t connected. I walked forward and then BAM! I tripped and hit my nose on a locker. I could hear laughter all around me and when I looked up, he was gone!

I opened my eyes and looked around me. I had no idea where on earth I was, but I knew that wherever I was it was a dangerous place to be.

“Help! Help! Let me out of here!”

Suddenly I stopped screaming, I thought I had heard a noise, yes, there it was again.

“Is there someone there? Can you hear me?”

A door burst open and five girls came into the room. I recognised them immediately, they were the popular girls from school. My heart sank as one by one they all began to smile evilly at me.

“Aaargh!”

This story is pretty shocking, but what you will find out at the end will blow your mind.

I suppose I’d better start at the beginning, so you will understand the full story.

I was in class one Monday morning and I was feeling really nervous. You see, today was different to most Mondays, because this morning my sister had helped me to get ready for school. She had done my hair up nice and chosen some pretty clothes for me to wear, a kind of mini makeover. The reason she had helped me was because it was my birthday. It was her present to me.

“The boys will be all over you when they see you looking this good.”

"Ahhhh!" I screamed as a slushie ran down my hair and into my clothes. 

I spun around and Cassie laughed as she kissed Ryan lightly on his lips.

"Did you really think Ryan was willing to go out with a girl like you? Delusional" Cassie scoffed as she made the L sign on her forehead. "It was a dare, nothing more, nothing less. Ryan and I come from the same world...wealth. You will never be one of us, nor will you ever fit into our world, no matter how hard you try."

I was about to attack Cassie when Diandra, my best friend, held me back.

"She's not worth it."

"You better listen to your friend. Come on, Ryan, let's get out of here."

Hey! My name’s Amanda, and I’m from Alaska. I don’t have much time to write this, so I’ll jump right into the juicy stuff.

A brick came loose from the wall. I watched it shatter and knew that would be my skull if I wasn’t careful.

“I knew cutting my hair was a bad idea, I could be pulling a Rapunzel right now!”

Wait, this doesn’t make any sense. Do you wanna know how I ended up escaping a tower? Then stick around!

I never excelled at school. I used to take naps in class, and one time I even snuck out the window to go get food! Ah, those were the days. But one day I got called into the principal’s office.

“I won’t lie to you, Amanda, your grades are horrific.” He said with furrowed brows. 

“I’m assigning you a tutor”

Before I could protest he shoved me out of his office. Not that I wanted to stay in there any longer; it always smelled like cheese.

Later that day I sat in the school library waiting for my tutor to show up. I didn’t even notice him when he arrived, he was as quiet as a mouse. 

“Hey, how’s it goin’? I’m Michael.”

He flashed me a dashing smile. He was kinda good looking, but not exactly my type.

“HAHAHAHA” the entire audience was laughing as my leotard ripped apart from the back. I’d forgotten to check the size when I was putting it on in the changing room and apparently this one was too tight.

I ran off the stage and went to the changing room.

“Oh my gosh. I can’t believe this just happened.” I was on the verge of tears.

“It’s okay Alisha. These things happen to all aspiring actresses once in a while. At the end of our play no one will remember this little incident. Don’t worry.”

“Miss William, you don’t know teenagers nowadays. Someone probably took a video and it’s definitely trending right now.”

“There, there. Why don’t you ask your parents to take you home so you can take a break?

I wasn’t even sure whether they were in the audience. I took out my phone and called my mom.

“Hi dear.”

“Did you see what just happened?”

“What are you talking about?”

“You didn’t come to my play?”

“What play?”

I was so embarrassed that I dropped my clarinet and ran off the stage.

Usually, jocks don’t show up to classical music concerts. But here they were, a bunch of sweaty footballers at one of my biggest performances of the year. Why did they show up and why were they cheering for me?

Well, to put it simply, I’m hot. Most girls would kill to be in my shoes and as far as I was concerned, they could have them.

So I’ve already established that I absolutely hate how hot I am.

I’m popular at school but I never asked to be. Guys think I’m the most gorgeous girl they’ve ever seen and all the girls want to be my friend because they think that if they’re around me they might get noticed by the guys they like.

I kept facing disappointment after disappointment. For example, my best friend since kindergarten was a girl named Steffy. We did everything together and I thought we’d be friends for life. But when I started developing curves and attracting lots of attention, she sorta changed. She became a bit distant and she didn’t want to hang out as often as before.

"How dare you make a fool out of me!"

"I don't have to make a fool out of you, you're doing that all on your own!"

Mr and Mrs. Randall, our next door neighbours, argued back and forth. I pressed the space between my eyebrows.

"I guess it's time for a break anyway." I pushed my homework aside.

I went downstairs and lo and behold my mother sat on a beach chair with a bucket of popcorn with the front door open, watching the neighbours as though she had front seats to a WWE match.

This was just the beginning. Mom's crazy addiction affected everyone in town.

After my parents' divorce Mom and I moved to a small town. Why did they get divorced? Well, Dad told Mom she was married to her job; she wrote juicy gossip for tabloids and she was the best at what she did. When he asked her to quit she did it because she loved Dad but he left anyway and I watched Mom wither before my eyes, until she started to meddle in people's business once more. It seemed to bring back a spark to her personality. I love my Mom but her addiction was crazy!

Around midnight after studying, I decided to head downstairs for a snack when I saw Mom looking through blinds by the front door.

"Ugh, don't tell me the Randalls are at it again!"
