In this episode, Lisa Whittington-Hill, an instructor in our Publishing—Book, Magazine and Electronic program, explores the misogyny and gender bias that exists in pop culture. She shares details on her two books, Girls, Interrupted: How Pop Culture Is Failing Women and The Go-Go's Beauty and the Beat, and includes some of the topics she explored in both.

Lisa has an extensive industry background and a range of written pieces spanning several popular online publications. She is also the Publisher of This Magazine and has two published books.

Rachel Naud is the Program Coordinator of Centennial College's Lifestyle Media program, a writer and editor with more than 20 years experience in the field, and the founder and editor in chief of InBetween Magazine. Her knowledge of social media, building a brand for yourself, and influencer marketing is incredible, which she will explore in this episode. 

Tannaz Keshavarz is a 2017 graduate of Centennial's Script to Screen – Advanced Television and Film program that's currently in its tenth year. Tannaz has experience in both screenwriting and casting, which brings her an array of experience in her industry.

Most recently, she has been selected to join the 23rd edition of The Reelworld Emerging 20 Program, which is a six-month program that helps writers develop their screenplays, and is currently working on her own series.

Samantha MacAdam, a 2006 graduate of our Broadcasting program, is making waves in the film industry. As a multi-award-winning writer and director, she has worked on numerous projects and is currently nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction in a TV movie for Fashionably In Love. 

Her directorial comedic debut, "Prom Night," premiered at Just for Laughs; PLAYBACK recognized her as One to Watch; she was in the 2022 Directors Program cohort, a program supported by Warner Bros. Discovery and administered by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, and has achieved much more in between. She has collaborated with several renowned actors, has directed and co-wrote commercials for The JUNO Awards, has explored a diverse range of genres, including comedy and horror, and has a wealth of experience. 

In this episode, Samantha will discuss her experience in the industry, things you might not know or expect about directing, advice to directors just starting out, and much more. 

Taline and Ronnie, two graduates of our Music Industry Arts and Performance program, have teamed up to create a song titled Lumiere that they began writing in their first year of the program.
