Josh celebrates Purim and breaks out the Megillah. Drunk with the Spirit, Chase details the rise and fall of Spiritual Mobilization, a mid-twentieth century group whose history helps us make sense of movements as diverse as the Religious Right, QAnon, and Silicon Valley Buddhism.
NOTE: Chase keeps saying "James W. Fitfield." It's "Fifield." Chase is an idiot.

Happy Purim!
We know you've been waiting with bated breath, friends, but BH, part two is here! Josh and Chase dissect a couple of articles about so-called "Haredi terrorists," before investigating how to treat these brain worms. RaSHaSH and pious flagellation turn out to be the only antidotes for the New York Times Op Ed page. Aramaic poetry and sweet, sweet asceticism save the day!

Chase and Josh meander through the life and times of Rabbi Shalom Sharabi (RaSHaSH), visiting 18th-century Yemen, Jerusalem, and the medieval Netherlands. On the way, they separate "good" from "bad" prayer " and rant about pop Buddhism, prison yoga, and the evangelical plot to save every soul with snakes and coca cola.

Chase and Josh visit the prince of Torah by way of the New York Times. Then the boys are joined by a very special guest who dispenses wisdom you won't hear anywhere else. Once this visionary departs, Chase and Josh settle in to discuss religious grifters and the art of the holy deal.
Translation of the opening audio:
Yanki (grandson): "should a woman get the vaccine while she's breastfeeding?"
Kanievsky: "yes."
Yanki: "a woman who is pregnant and had COVID within the last six months, should she also get the vaccine?"
Kanievsky: "yes."
Yanki: "someone who did not get vaccinated is asking if it is correct to say that he is endangering the lives of others?"
Kanievsky: "correct."
Yanki: "if a husband isn't willing to get his wife the vaccine but the wife herself very much wants to, is she permitted to get vaccinated herself without her husband's knowledge?"
Kanievsky: "yes."
