Deep under the ruins of dead Moscow, in tunnels and metro stations, life is in full swing. Not what it was before — luxurious, sunny, full of hope. Now it's a survivor's life, a life of struggle in a realm of darkness, dampness, and quiet terror. After the Catastrophe that wiped out the old world, the subway became the last refuge of humanity, a giant bunker torn apart by warring states: gangsters, militarized regimes and the last islands of knowledge.
Our hero is a Mole, a stalker. He is one of those who risks his life climbing to an infected, mutant-infested surface in order to get grains of resources for the inhabitants of the subway: medicines, ammunition, food, even cosmetics. His work is dangerous and revered, but he's not out on a mission today. He's at the bustling Taganskaya-Koltsevaya station, the heart of the rich and powerful Hansa, and he's trying to pretend that he's just admiring the interiors.
But something is wrong. There are too many familiar faces in the crowd. There are too many stalkers from the most diverse, usually warring, corners of the metro: from the Hanseatic League, from the ascetic Red Line, and even the keeper of knowledge from the mysterious Polis. They all gathered here at the same time, as if sensing prey. Rumors — the nervous system of the metro — spread the news about something important, found on the God-forsaken outskirts, in the area of the stations "Tekstilshchiki" and "Kuzminki". Something worth putting aside the strife and heading into the heart of darkness for.
The mole and his new, not the most gullible companions will have a dangerous path through abandoned tunnels, where mind-burning anomalies are playing tricks, and open tracks where terrible mutants, nicknamed "beauties", rule. They are waiting for ghost stations that live by their own strange laws, distrustful locals who have long been cut off from the big metro, and a secret that could cost them their lives.
This is not a story about saving the world. This is a story about survival, duty, a strange friendship that begins in the darkest corners, and what kind of mystery can make the most diverse people unite against a common enemy.
