STRANGER FRUIT

Latines are a diverse group of people, with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. But Anti-Blackness, hiding in plain sight, continues to affect many members of the diaspora. Despite the fact that Latines come in all shades and skin tones, there is a troubling pattern of discrimination and marginalization against Black Latines. Today, our panelists are tackling this important topic head-on, and discussing the ways in which anti-Blackness impacts their lives and the Latino community as a whole. Constanza Eliana dives into some uncomfortable truths with our panel and explore ways to not only acknowledge the existence but also combat anti-Blackness within Latinidad.

Long before 2016 and MAGA, xenophobia was a staple in the US system and social lexicon. The US built the Mexican border wall in the 1940’s, and since then anti-Latino and anti-Black policies have only gotten stricter and harsher. This episode explores the immigrant experience and policies with immigrants and children of immigrants themselves.

America was founded on violence and nothing has changed. In certain parts of the country, violent crime is on the rise. As part of our 4 part series on the rise of violence, the panelists come together to analyze Hip Hop's impact on violence. From the death of Hip Hop superstar, Takeoff, to the conviction of Tory Lanez for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, major headlines of violence in the Hip Hop world has put a microscope on our beloved genre. Does Hip Hop inspire violence among Black youth? Has Hip-Hop strayed from its political roots? What do you think?

On this episode, former pros, Mark Alford and Andrew Jackson join Donovan and Constanza Eliana to talk about their experience as Black athletes in a very white dominated sport.
