On this episode of the show, Paul and Pete are so fired up to reveal the ten best films of 2016 that they forget which episode it is. With that aside, it's time to celebrate a year that was, at times, incredibly bleak with the aid of a large helping of cinema covered in the rich gravy of opinion. Enjoy!

This episode of the show includes close encounters with Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner in Arrival as well as a second helping of Amy Adams alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Nocturnal Animals. As if that wasn't enough, we also dive into regular features The Popcorn Counter, Coming Attractions and give credit to some of our heroes from the wide world of film.

On this episode of Strangers in a Cinema (recorded prior to Donald Trump gurning his way to a profoundly dispiriting presidential campaign 'victory'), Pete reviews Ava DuVernay's timely visual essay on the sorry state of the American penal system in the form of her documentary '13th'. Paul then attempts to lift the show out of the gloom and into the realm of magic as he reviews the latest Marvel offering, Dr Strange.

On episode 23 the number 23 turns out to signify nothing. With that as a base camp, the guys set off on their journey through the cinema with reviews of Deepwater Horizon, Warcraft, Blair Witch, and American Honey. They then fix their eyes on the pitiless face of one Werner Herzog to consider whether the common denominators of our collective internet future are chaos, hostility and murder or cat videos and epic fails.

Lo and, indeed, behold...

On this episode of the show, the guys can't tear their eyes away from Don't Breathe - Fede Alvarez' follow-up to his remake of The Evil Dead, as well as getting out on the dusty plains of West Texas for a rearview look at Hell or High Water. Regular slot Sweet or Salty returns as does a preview of two upcoming features and a tribute to both diligent moviegoers and the late Curtis Hanson.
