Streamlined Solopreneur: Easy Productivity & Tech Systems for Solopreneurs episodes

  • Being a Solopreneur Doesn’t Mean Doing It All Yourself

When I made websites, or helped people launch their podcast, it was very easy to explain. But when I talk about saving 25 hours per month by building systems and workflows, that’s really unclear to a lot of people. I’m selling the feeling. One of the things that has really helped me is my signature framework: the Streamlined Solopreneur System.

I wanted to communicate that being a solopreneur does not mean doing it all yourself. So in this episode, I walk you through all five pillars (goals, mindset, organize, systematize, and scale) and the questions you can ask yourself at each step.

Follow these steps and you’ll free up time in your business to spend time the way you want. Because taking your kids to the playground and then answering messages in Slack is not true freedom. That’s just a longer chain that’s still at your desk.

  • Small Systems That Cut Freelance Admin: Live Coaching with Rachel Alvarado

How do you cut the manual admin around client work when every project feels different? Copywriter and content strategist Rachel Alvarado and I go through her onboarding, audits, writing process and wrap-up. We land on small fixes: a testimonial ask in every wrap-up email, text snippets, ChatGPT for project setup, Google Docs eSignature, and sending each client’s tools to the one place she checks.

  • My Essential Apps, Devices, and Techniques

I’ve spent the last few episodes telling you the tools don’t matter. How you organize your day and spend your time is what really matters. But recently a friend on my mailing list asked for my top three devices, apps, and techniques for time and productivity management, and it was fun to answer...so I'm bringing it to you.

I go through the devices that are really important to me: my phone, my Apple Watch, and the analogs (a book and a Field Notes notebook). Then the apps I use on my phone, my computer, and my iPad: Obsidian, Todoist, and Whisper Memos. I even get into the once-a-day games I play, and the ones that took up far too much of my time.

But the techniques are where the magic happens. Using AI to take stuff off your plate without understanding how you work is like empty calories. You’re doing something, but you aren’t moving the chains forward. So I share the three that make the most impact for me as a solopreneur: weekly planning, task journaling, and time boxing. Having a game plan frees up your time so you can spend it the way you want.

Go to your kid’s soccer game, see a movie, or just spend some extra time reading.

  • The iPhone Duo Didn't Come But I Still Talked About It [Friday Wrap-Up]

This week I talk about why The Haunted Mansion is my favorite Disney attraction, and the lesson it has for solopreneurs: use new technology to improve the experience for your customers, not just to make things easier for yourself. Then why The Browser Company shutting down Arc raises the question of when to invest time and money in a tool, and a recommendation for Alternative Park Days, a new podcast from my friend Lauren. Don’t get another tool until you listen to this. When I built a fence last summer, my brother-in-law brought an auger. It made the job faster, but the auger alone would've left me with holes in my yard and a trip to the ER. It wouldn’t have built the fence for me.

The tool is not the solution. Today, I use James Patterson, George R.R. Martin, and Stephen King to show why the system beats the tool, and how to figure out which tools you actually need.

  • What I Learned at Ecamm's Creator Camp [Friday Wrap-Up]

This week I share what I learned after speaking at Ecamm's Creator Camp: why listing the simple automations I use landed better than I expected, and how my "AI is for tasks, not craft" line ended up on the quote board. I also go through four questions I'm asking myself now.

Should I go back to Instagram? What should my YouTube pillars be? Do I need a simple digital product? And when should you code your own tool instead of paying for one?

Plus, starting October 9th, the Friday Wrap-Up goes live on YouTube.
