Ellie was in an abusive relationship for 2 years when she finally decided “I can’t fix him”. Her husband had become a meth addict and was getting worse by the day. So she grabbed her dogs, got in her car, and started driving.
She drove from the East Coast to Santa Barbra, her car got repossessed, and she walked from Santa Barbra to Redwood City. That’s when Deputy Russell Felker of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department noticed her, picked her up, and brought her to Street Life.
Shawn, our female outreach coordinator, got to know Ellie, helped her get into a shelter, and started working with Ellie to get her off the streets. A few months later Ellie still has a roof over her head, she landed herself a job, and she told us: “I feel safe”.
