Join Street Soldiers Radio as we celebrate Latino Heritage Month with guests Joshua Jacobo, Estella Nataly Ortiz,Valerie Tulier Laiwa, Joanna Hernandez, Roberto Hernandez and James Marshall.

Join our programming director, Andre Aikins, on Street Soldiers Radio tomorrow at 8 PM as he tells you more about “Get Up, Get Out: A Black Men’s Health Symposium.”

This event is happening on Saturday, September 26 and it’s designed to build brotherhood and encourage Black men to take their health seriously.

This event is both active and educational and will feature:
• Panels and presentations on numerous health topics
• Free health screenings
• Access to community resources
• Breakfast and lunch
• Two 3-on-3 basketball tournaments, one for adults and one for youth (ages 12-17)

This event is for Black men of all ages and offers access to a wealth of health resources and health education. On top of giving Black men and boys the tools they need to better take care of themselves, we’re also giving them the chance to have fun and get active by competing in a basketball tournament. Keith Wattley, founder of UnCommon Law joined Street Soldiers Radio to shared how they have supported incarcerated people to heal and return home through parole. 

For 20 years, UnCommon Law has championed the radical notion that people serving life sentences in prison for serious or violent crimes have the capacity for transformation and deserve viable pathways home from prison. With leadership from those most impacted by the criminal legal system, they are reimagining responses to violence and harm, and fighting to dismantle life sentencing and discretionary parole. Their groundbreaking approach is changing policy and parole outcomes, driven by the voices and experiences of system-impacted communities.

Street Soldiers Radio had a special night with Richmond’s own Elana Bolds, creator of the Put the Guns Down event. Ms. Lana is known throughout Richmond, CA as someone who cares about her community and giving back. She shared her own life story of trauma and healing with us and even blessed us with one of her original songs.
