Keith Wattley, founder of UnCommon Law joined Street Soldiers Radio to shared how they have supported incarcerated people to heal and return home through parole. 

For 20 years, UnCommon Law has championed the radical notion that people serving life sentences in prison for serious or violent crimes have the capacity for transformation and deserve viable pathways home from prison. With leadership from those most impacted by the criminal legal system, they are reimagining responses to violence and harm, and fighting to dismantle life sentencing and discretionary parole. Their groundbreaking approach is changing policy and parole outcomes, driven by the voices and experiences of system-impacted communities.

Street Soldiers Radio had a special night with Richmond’s own Elana Bolds, creator of the Put the Guns Down event. Ms. Lana is known throughout Richmond, CA as someone who cares about her community and giving back. She shared her own life story of trauma and healing with us and even blessed us with one of her original songs.

Street Soldiers Radio celebrated our newest college grauduates (298 total!) and our newest students who finished the Leadership Academy/College Prep class and are on their way to college. They each shared how Alive & Free has impacted their life, what being in the classroom was like and their future goals.

As we celebrate America’s 250 anniversary, Street Soldiers Radio dived into a conversation about the history of the country and what we would like to see in the future.
