Founder Kino Carson joins Street Soldiers Radio to share his vision, purpose and mission with his annual Urban Heat Academy Youth Step Show Competition. We discuss the significance of youth participating in stepping and taking pride in their techniques with the coaches and collaboraters of the program.

We also get an update from Richmond High School student, Markeith Anderson and BSU Advisor Kiraa Easter on the progress of their movement We Stop! You Stop!

We stop, you stop! Street Soldiers Radio talks about the use of the n-word in the aftermath of the student/teacher incident at Richmond High School. 

Markeith Anderson, a sophomore and Black Student Union member, organized a protest in protest of the use of the N-word on campus after a student allegedly used the racial slur when talking with a Black substitute teacher. The substitute was seen on video grabbing the student, throwing him to the floor, and forcibly removing the teen from the classroom.

He joins us along with Kiraa Easter, an advisor for Richmond’s BSU.

We also speak with local Bay Area teachers about the incident. 

The Blerd Academy (Black Nerds) joins Street Soldiers Radio to share how they help African-American students earn scholarships to HBCU’s and graduate debt free!

Meet Douglass Fort, founder of the Blerd Academy, who works with college-bound students, who may be enrolled in advanced placement (AP) classes with above average grades.

Fort says that since these kids are expected to go to college, school administers rarely put resources toward celebrating and guiding these students.

“In the black community, we highlight three different people,” Fort says. “We highlight the athlete, the musician or the misbehaved. We never highlight the nerd.”

A new episode of Sins of the City on TV ONE recently aired the story of the tragic murder of De La Salle football star Terrance Kelly in 2004. Street Soldiers Radio has worked closely with the Kelly family and the city of Richmond to prevent violence. We remember TK and his impact on the city of Richmond, CA.
