Player movement has been one of the big talking points for ABL fans in the off-season, and this one is one of the biggest. 

After 255 games for the Perth Heat since the ABL was reestablished, one of Perth's favourite sons, Luke Hughes has confirmed the whispers that he was moving east, and will turn out for the Melbourne Aces in season 2018-19 and beyond.

The New Zealand team in the Australian Baseball League has taken another step closer to becoming reality, with an official launch in New Zealand.

The latest big announcement about the Australian baseball scene was made this afternoon in Canberra and Yokohama, with the Canberra Cavalry and two-time NPB champions the Yokohama DeNA BayStars announcing that the clubs have entered into a strategic partnership.

While there have been players sent from NPB clubs to play in the ABL in the past, this agreement is the first extensive one signed between clubs in the two leagues. It will give the Cavalry exposure in Japan, and BayStars personnel - both on and off the field) development opportunities in Australia during the ABL season.

Some other ABL clubs have been reaping the benefits of overseas players and influence, so what can the Cavalry expect from an agreement like this? Australia's Micheal Nakamura played Major League Baseball in the USA, and in the NPB in Japan, and is one of the most-qualified people in Australia to say what this deal could mean for Canberra and Australian baseball.

With the MLB All-Star Futures Game almost upon us, this is the second of Chris Coleman's chats with the Australian players taking part in the 2018 edition, which is the first in over a decade to feature two players from the land down under. 

Lewis Thorpe is Chris's guest this time around, and he's in the middle of a string season for the Chattanooga Lookouts this year, and is going well after illness and injury severely curtailed his 2015 and 2016 seasons.

There's been a lot of baseball buzz about the Wells twins for a while. Alex and Lachlan have both achieved plenty on the diamond, despite being just 21, and the latest accolade has come for Alex, with his selection in the 2018 MLB All-Star Futures game. And in a great moment for Aussie baseball, it's come alongside another Aussie young gun, in Lewis Thorpe.

In this episode and the next, Chris Coleman will chat with the two young left-arm hurlers.

Today, it's a quick chat with Alex about his season so far with the Frederick Keys in the Class A Advanced Carolina League, how he found out he'd been chosen, and how he feels about the prospect of playing for the legendary David Ortiz on the weekend.

While there's been plenty of focus on the Australian Baseball League recently, and the announcement that Dave Nilsson will take charge of our national team as it embarks on the journey to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, there's another Australian baseball team, and it's getting set for a World Cup.

It's our national women's team, The Emeralds, and in August, they'll take to the diamond in Florida.

They'll do so under the guiding hand of Simone Wearne, a legend of the game in Australia in her own right and manager of the women's national team since 2013\.

Strike Zone Australia, and the eyes of Australian baseball have moved on to Adelaide, where the interesting announcement has been made that the licence to operate the Adelaide Bite in the Australian Baseball League has been purchased by the Adelaide Crows AFL club.

Shane Smallacombe, the Crows Chief Financial Officer now finds himself as the project leader for this venture and in this episode he chats with Chris Coleman about how the deal came to pass, will the Bite become the Crows, and how the Crows-owned baseball team will make fans of their AFL Rivals Port Adelaide feel welcome.
