As of January 17, 2025, Lake Texoma is offering some excellent fishing opportunities despite the cold winter weather. Here’s what you need to know:
### Conditions
The lake is currently at 0.15 feet above normal pool elevation, with a total water storage of 2,451,110 acre-feet[2].
### Weather and Tidal Report
The water temperature has dropped into the upper 40s to low 50s, which is typical for this time of year. There is no significant tidal activity to report, as Lake Texoma is a freshwater lake.
### Sunrise and Sunset
Sunrise today is at around 7:30 AM, and sunset will be around 5:30 PM.
### Fish Activity
The colder weather has pushed much of the baitfish to deeper areas, making this an ideal time to target larger fish. Striped bass, in particular, are active and can be found moving onto structure such as bluffs, drop-offs, and near the Denison Dam[4][5].
### Types and Amounts of Fish
Yesterday saw a good number of striped bass caught, with many in the 12 to 20-pound range. Some larger blues and yellow catfish were also reported, especially in the upper ends of the lake using cut shad. Crappie are being caught on small jigs and minnows mid-lake near structure and in the river near Tin Top[3][5].
### Best Lures and Bait
For striped bass, use chartreuse and white slabs or paddle tail swimbaits. As the water gets colder, switching to larger profile baits like cut shad can be effective. For crappie, small jigs and minnows are working well. For catfish, punch bait and cut bait are recommended[3][5].
### Hot Spots
Some of the best spots to try include the Eisenhower State Park Bluffs on the Texas side, Denison Dam, and North Island on the Oklahoma side. West Burns Run in Oklahoma is also a hotspot for striped bass[4].
Overall, Lake Texoma is in great shape for winter fishing, and with the right gear and knowledge of the hot spots, you can have a very successful day on the water.
