Lake Texoma Daily Fishing Report

Striper and Catfish Bonanza at Lake Texoma Despite Turnover Conditions

Listen Later

As of October 16, 2024, Lake Texoma is offering some exciting fishing opportunities despite the challenging conditions due to the lake's turnover. Here’s what you need to know:

### Weather and Water Conditions
The water temperature is around 75 degrees, and the lake is slightly stained. The elevation is about 1.51 feet below pool level. The weather has cooled off a bit, but we're still waiting for that crisp fall air to fully kick in.

### Sunrise and Sunset
Sunrise today is at 7:34 AM, and sunset will be at 6:44 PM, giving you a good window for both morning and evening fishing.

### Fish Activity
Striped bass fishing has been excellent, particularly with live bait on ledges in 25-40 feet of water near river channels and creeks. The topwater bite is starting to pick up in the shallows, but it will really fire up once the weather cools down a bit more. Fish are moving fast but are starting to slow down and feed hard, making it easier to catch limits on live bait.

### Types and Amounts of Fish
Yesterday saw a good number of striped bass caught, along with some white bass and catfish. The striped bass are being caught on both topwaters in the backs of creeks at daybreak and on live bait while drifting flats in 25-30 feet of water. Catfishing remains great, especially on shad and prepared baits near humps in 15-20 feet of water for channels, and on ledges in 30-50 feet of water for blue catfish.

### Best Lures and Bait
For striped bass, live shad, gizzard shad, and threadfin shad are working exceptionally well. Artificial lures like swimbaits, slabs, and topwaters are also effective, especially in the shallows. For catfish, cut shad and prepared baits are the way to go. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are biting on soft plastics and hard baits near docks and down the bluffs.

### Hot Spots
One of the best spots right now is east of the 377 bridge, where you can troll along the ledge by the horse pens area in 16-25 feet of water. Another hot spot is near the river channels and creeks, where the striped bass are actively feeding on live bait.

Overall, Lake Texoma is offering some great fishing opportunities, especially for those targeting striped bass and catfish. Just be prepared for the lake's turnover to create some challenging conditions, and keep an eye out for those diving birds to mark feeding schools.
