Lake Texoma Daily Fishing Report

Stripers Biting Strong on Lake Texoma Despite Cold Temps

Listen Later

As of December 26, 2024, Lake Texoma is offering some excellent fishing opportunities, despite the cold weather. Here’s what you need to know for a successful day on the water.

First, let's talk about the water levels. Lake Texoma is currently at 100% capacity, with the water level at 617.59 feet, just 0.59 feet above the conservation pool elevation[2].

For fish activity, striped bass fishing is particularly excellent right now. With the dropping water temperatures, these fish are forming large schools in river channels and along ledges. You can catch them using flukes (dead-sticking) on a jig head, suspended in deep water or along the bottom on flats. Live shad are also producing limits of quality fish, especially near coves and humps on structures in 8-15 feet of water[3].

Crappie fishing is slow, but you can still find them using electronics to locate brush and structure in 15-20 feet of water. Bass fishing is fair, with fish becoming more active around midday along structure and main lake points as the water temperatures drop[3].

Since Lake Texoma is a freshwater lake, it does not have tides like coastal areas. However, the weather and time of day can influence fish behavior. Sunrise today is at around 7:30 AM, and sunset will be at about 5:00 PM.

For the best results, focus on areas like Denison Dam, SandBass Pass, and the Islands. These spots are known for their productivity, especially for striped bass. Around Denison Dam, you can often find large schools of stripers, and the structure here tends to attract bigger fish[4].

In terms of bait and lures, live shad and flukes on jig heads are top choices. Swimbaits and live shad are also effective, especially when fish are roaming in deeper water in big schools[1][3].

Overall, Lake Texoma is in great shape for fishing, with plenty of active fish and ideal conditions for a successful day on the water. Just make sure to bundle up, as the winter weather is setting in.
