Lake Texoma Daily Fishing Report

Stripers Biting Strong on Lake Texoma Despite the Cold

Listen Later

As of January 16, 2025, Lake Texoma is offering some exciting fishing opportunities despite the cold weather. Here’s what you need to know:

First, the lake's current conditions: The water level is 0.37 feet above pool, with a temperature of 53 degrees and the water stained[1].

For tidal and water level information, Lake Texoma, being a reservoir, does not have tides, but the pool elevation is currently at 616.56 feet, which is slightly above normal[2].

Weather-wise, it's cold, which is typical for this time of year. Sunrise today is around 7:30 AM, and sunset will be around 5:30 PM.

Fish activity is quite promising, especially for striped bass. With the cold weather, striper fishing is really picking up. Look for bigger schools of fish near river channels and deep flats in 40-55 feet of water, suspended. Bigger fish are holding on structure in 8-15 feet of water, particularly on humps and points near creek channels. Deadsticking flukes and casting swimbaits are both productive techniques. Alabama rigs on structure in 15-25 feet of water are also effective, especially under the birds in deeper water during the last hour of sunlight[1].

Bass fishing has slowed down due to the cold snap, but you can still catch some using plastics and slow-moving baits near points in 8-12 feet of water. Target sandy flats near creek mouths and fish around stumps and brush for the best chances[1].

Crappie fishing is tough, but you can find them holding tight to brush piles and structure in deeper water near main lake coves or on stump flats closer to the dam[1].

For catfishing, the bite has slowed, but bigger fish can still be targeted on flats near the rivers in 10-25 feet of water using cut gizzard shad or whole shad[1].

Best lures and baits include:
- For striped bass: Deadsticking flukes, swimbaits, and Alabama rigs.
- For bass: Plastics and slow-moving baits like shaky heads or swim jigs.
- For catfish: Cut gizzard shad or whole shad.

Hot spots to consider include:
- Eisenhower State Park Bluffs (Texas) for striped bass.
- Denison Dam (Texas) for a mix of species.
- North Island (Oklahoma) and West Burns Run (Oklahoma) for striped bass and other species[3].

Remember to drain your boat and onboard receptacles to prevent the spread of zebra mussels when leaving or approaching public fresh waters.

Good luck out there, and stay warm
