If you have a problem in any of your relationships I can promise you that it comes down to one word, TRUST! Trust is the foundation for every relationship. Whether it is a business relationship or a marriage, without trust it is doomed to fail.
The problem is that most of us can be pretty ignorant about what trust is and how to build and maintain it.
In every relationship there is a giving or exchange between entities. They give their word, money, time, love, service, whatever the case, something is exchanged. More so, it is something of value to the people involved. The problem comes when the values are not equal and one person feels undervalued in the exchange. For example, I give you my word and you hold it as valuable. Then I cheapen my word by going back on it.
Here's the deal, both parties must learn to understand the value of what is being exchanged and then how to maintain that value between the two of you. If the value or lack of, is assumed, often the assumption will come back to bite you.
Trust takes time and awareness. It is not something to be messed with or minimized in the relationship. It can be damaged in one instant or it can slowly fade over time. Either way, the build-back process is among the greatest challenges you will ever face when it comes to building relationships.
