John's vision of the two witnesses that seemed to be invincible, ends with them killed by the beast. However, after 3 1/2 days they are raised from dead and called up to meet the Lord in the air. The meaning is probably that the church will be able to propagate the gospel throughout the world, but when their work is finished, the antichristian world powers will persecute the church and silence it by driving it underground. However, God will have the last say by vindicating the church, raising it from the dead and rapturing it at the second coming of Christ.

In chapter 10 we see a transition from the main message of Revelation concerning God's judgment on Israel and Jerusalem, to His work throughout the Church Age. The "little book" appears to be this secondary prophecy, covering chapters 11, 12, and 13, and is marked by three different but equal time designations: 42 months, 1,260 days, and time, times, and half a time.
