Episode 5 - How to find support

Studying abroad is an adventure, and hopefully a great experience. But we all know there will be days when things just feel a bit more challenging than others. Whether it's feeling homesick, having a bit of a rough time during flu season or just dealing with the workload at the university.

In episode five of "Study in Germany - The Podcast", our host Jana chats with Maysan about how to deal with tough times while studying in Germany. Maysan has been living in Germany for a couple of years now. She is doing her doctorate in Ecotoxicology and Disease Evolutionary Ecology at the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries. She will be sharing her experience and some advice on how to keep going when you're feeling down.

Episode 4 - How to live in Germany

Germany is well known for bread, drug stores and discount supermarkets, raincoats and bike helmets, but there's much more to learn about everyday life. Especially, if you decided to study and live here.

In the fourth episode, our host Jana chats to Maria about how she organises her days in Hamburg. Maria is from Moscow and she is doing her Master's in Science and Innovation, Business and Sustainability in the City at the Elbe river. While Maria is very much used to getting yummy Franzbrötchen and delicious coffee almost everywhere, there are of course some things she had to get used to.

Episode 3 - How to finance your stay

At many German universities you might not have to pay any regular tuition fees, but you'll obviously need money for things like housing, insurance and your day-to-day expenses when you start to study in Germany.

In the third episode, our host Jana chats with Mandy from Vietnam about financial topics, like scholarships, jobs, the need for a bank account and insurances, and the cost of living in Germany. Mandy is studying English and American Studies at the University of Bamberg and shares her experiences and gives some useful tips.

Episode 2 - How to prepare your stay

So you've found the right study programme in Germany and got in? Congrats! But now it's time for the "Papierkram" (meaning "Paperwork" - a German word you'll hear a lot from now on). While the rules around visas can differ from country to country, there are some questions that everyone will have to answer before leaving to study in Germany. For example, how much German should I already know? What kind of jacket do I need to bring? Do I need to find accommodation beforehand? And how can I prepare myself emotionally to start in a new country?

Episode 1 - How to find a study programme

Germany's universities have a lot to offer, so it can be tricky to find out what suits you best. And sometimes you find the right programme in a town you've never even heard of. Don't worry, we've got your back!
